A self-proclaimed Rev?Fred Phelps of the Topeko, KS Westboro Baptist church was planning a demonstration/picket at these poor girls funeral, all to draw attention to their cause. I am so glad that the Amish don't have electricity. I feel embarressed. And ashamed. Thinking that those wonderful, simple, God-loving people, could be watching or hearing what's going on in the news with this FARCE of a church, that want to do nothing but spread hate. They must really be a thorn in side for the good people of Topeka, and equally embarressed by them.

The church you are speaking of in Topeka also tried to do the same thing here in West Virginia at the funeral of the miners that were killed in the Sago mining accident.

He said many terrible things about those men, many of whom were good, God-fearing, Christians. I don't just mean the type that are Christian by name, but Christian by example and action.

Fred Phelps is an attention seeking radical who puts a bad name on all Christians. His church members have several lawsuits on people who have tried to quell his "freedom of speech". He is a money grubbing jerk, who uses religion as his platform.

To stop his actions, the people of West Virgina (even our governor and the motorcycle club he belongs to), the media, law enforcement, and many others who didn't want the attention of Fred Phelps came together to block his group from getting too close to the funerals of the miners.

Sorry this answer is so long. But please, do not hold the actions of a radical like Fred Phelps, who I think is a coward, against true Christianity.

Signed,

The Old Time Preacher.

I had heard that too. I hope that the people in the surrounding community form a human blockade to prevent those freaks from getting within miles of those grieving families. Maybe the county could quickly designate the area for private use only. Here in Michigan, Bikers blocked their access to a soldier's funeral. Women and children showed up. What kind of hatemongers are these?

Where these people are concerned, I think that we should bring back an old Biblical practice...Stone The Bastards! There is nothing lower than a person, who in the name of Christ, harms another human being. I call on all people from this Pennsylvania community and surrounding areas, to show up and protect these Amish people. They have had enough!

An attention whore like Fred Phelps who also pickets the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He sure is fascinated with sodomy.

As your question was worded, "How can anyone..."

The answer is "By being sick." He just wants people to listen to him and to get his picture on the evening news. In a healthy society, something would be done to help him and his followers, but we have lost that capability. He's just sick, and should be ignored as much as possible.

I am Christian and would NEVER think of doing something like that. I feel for those people, not matter who they are.. it is a tragedy and I will continue to pray for them.

People will exploit anything for their cause- often no matter how tacky or downright wrong it would be. Some people just don't care about anything but themselves.
