Okay, we all know Steve Irwin's supposed quote that if even if a gator was chewing him up, he still wanted the cameras rolling.

Well apperantly the Simpsons writers decided to have fun with that cause two years ago on an old episode of the Simpsons "Marge vs. Everyone", at the beginning Bart is watching an animated verison of Steve encountering a gator, and then the gator starts to rip him to pieces. Lisa then changes the channel to what she wants to see. Bart then grabs the remote and changes the channel back and we see that all that's left of Steve is a blooded arm and leg floating in the river.

Bart then complains that he "missed the feeding frenzy", meaning that like the people asking for the death video he actually wanted to see Steve die.

Due to recent events, do you think that this two year old bit is now inappropriate and tasteless and should be cut from further repeats?

Here's the clip from the ep:

All right, in response I myself wouldn't want the scene to get censored either.

I've been curious on this subject since Steve's death, which is why I asked.

I was surprised that they showed that episode so soon after Steve Irwin's death, especially when they waited so long after the WTC buildings were attacked to show the episode where they blew up the (non-existent) MAD building in New York.

However, the clip with Steve Irwin shows why so many people were fascinated with him and helps to remind us of that, and I think they might have felt it was sort of a tribute put in that comedic perspective rather than disturbing. Like Steve Irwin, it helps us to also retain a bit of humor even in the most unwelcome situations, so we can remember him as a fun and adventurous guy and not just as a tragedy.

People want to have him remembered for what he did and what he represented. I think it would be a crime to edit him out. Would you do the same to troy mcleur?
You can't re-write history. The fact of the matter is that they (the simpsons witers) did is with Steve's permission, so it should be left as it is. Perhaps at the end of the episode they could add a memorial, though.

Hey, I think you are on to something here. We could extend it, and remove all movies which depict people that have died since the movie was made. Maybe we could also apply this scheme to books and other publications?

Oh, but wait... that would leave a vast number of people lost, because they would lose their main crutch in life - the Bible. In fact, apart from this, the world would become an incredibly bland and boring place.

Re-think required...

Seriously - censorship is not the answer.

:-)

How stupidly politically correct do you think society should be? Not only is your question inappropriate in it's PCness but Steve Irwin would tell you to 'get a life'.
