Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday
to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to
head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to
Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his
ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that
some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not
accept that Australia was a secular State and its laws were made by
parliament.

"If those are not your values, if you want a country that has Sharia law
or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you", he said on national
television.

"Immigrants, not Australians must adapt. Take it or leave it. I am tired
of this Nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or
their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a
surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the
"politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that
our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration nor do I
hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to
Australia.

However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our
country, and apparently some who were born here, need to understand. The
idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to
dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians we have
our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.

This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials
and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese or Arabic, Chinese,
Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you want to become
part of our society,...learn the language.

Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing,
political push but a fact because Christian men and women, on Christian
principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is
certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your
new home, because God is part of our culture.

We will accept your beliefs and will not question why, all we ask is that
you accept ours and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us. If the
Southern Cross offends you or you don’t like a "Fair Go" then you should
seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change and we really
don’t care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your
culture but do not force it on others.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE and we will allow you
every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining,
whining and griping about our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs or
Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other
great Australian freedom: THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you are not happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here.
You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.

"I’d be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws
governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another - the
Islamic law. That is false. If you can’t agree with parliamentary law,
independent courts, democracy and would prefer Sharia law and have the
opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then,
that’s a better option" Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said
those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other
country.

Education minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who
do not want to accept local values should " clear off "

"Basically, people who don’t want to be Australians and they don’t want
to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can
basically clear off" he said. Separately Howard angered some Australian
Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the
nations mosques.

What else does anyone need to say?

Let's get down on our knees and thank God for Westerners with courage to tell it like it is.

The prime minister called the meeting in the wake of last month's London bombings by British-born Muslims, amid fears that Australia could be the target of a similar attack by disaffected members of its small Muslim community.

"The purpose of the meeting was to identify ways of preventing the emergence of any terrorist behaviour in this country," Howard told commercial radio Wednesday.

"You won't change the minds of people who are hardened fanatics and hardened extremists. You have to identify them and take measures to ensure that they don't become a problem."

Asked if he was prepared to "get inside" mosques and schools to ensure there was no support for terrorism, Howard said: "Yes, to the extent necessary".

My God I think I have just met someone as patriotic as myself. Everything you have said hit the spot with me. If you go to a country you adopt their ways.

I mean if we go over there we have to cover up out of respect of their culture. We do not cover up over here so they should uncover themselves out of respect for us.

I know these Muslim leaders say that they won't do anything to harm us but the fact is it is becoming known that a few of these leaders are doing just that. They can condemn all they want but the fanatics will still do their thing.

I know that I would love to move to Germany but I do not understand their language yet so I am not going to go there until I do. I really think wherever you go you adopt their ways - stuff what religion is.

Advance Australia Fair!

What involves brain is it that the Aussies move to the Hawaiian Islands and now not additional inland to uncover male companionship. The Aussies I appreciate are such a lot are those who say "take me residence, I'm pissed as a tree!" Oh and the rather cool Rock Station out of Sydney.

I'd really like to go to Australia and check it out. It seems like an amazing country. I'd like to get to some of the more far-flung places, like the west coast, but of course I'd like to see all the cities too.

Yeah, I guess all countries have their extreme views.

I think a day is coming when humans just won't believe we ever talked like some of these politicians talk. It's paranoia.

It's bizarre how limited some human minds are. They have absolutely no idea whatsoever of the riches in the world if they would just open their eyes a little. But instead people have to keep being defensive about everything.

With the amount of Australians that travel the world, I refuse to believe that the typical Australian is so closed-minded.

I was reading your tirade with interest until you brought God into it.

I just don't understand why people have to justify their existence and their arguments by claiming closeness to whatever God will make others nod their heads in abject reverence.

I am sorry - I guess I am just allergic to missionaries, of any denomination. I do not rely on a God, and I still consider myself Australian (well, the paper I got when I was born says I am Australian in any case).

Having said this, you did cover some very valid points.

here here, Thankyou for taking this up, I travel quite alot, and it's the difference in cultures I enjoy, if we keep worrying about who we upset, where are we going to be in a decade?
immigrants are more than welcome here, their diversity is appreciated, but we are australia, we have our own way, and our own means of addressing things, if you don't like it, why'd you come here?
The americans have a similar mentality with this, you have to accept the law of the land, the religious stuff is a personla choice, and should remain in the heart and home, not as a rule for all

Yeah I love the Aussies..... They have clearly demonstrated that Americans aren't the only people on Earth with the balls to move into a place, wipe out (or otherwise oppress) the indigenous population, and then claim to be founded on Christian principles, I just have to laugh.

G'day PKDepp,

Thank you for posting that.

It is good to see that the Australian Government continues to have the political will to tackle terrorism as you have highlighted.
