these are excerpts from news stories

...out of the 55,000-odd autos that are present on delhi's roads...
...of the 50-odd men who work here...
...there are 110-odd teachers teaching...

and i'm not able to understand what does this 'odd' mean when added to a number, and why do reporters seem to be using 'odd' everywhere, wherever they have to write a number

They laugh and report and grin and report and every half hour they report the same tired repetitive so-called news! It's almost as though there's nothing happening ANYWHERE except in "The Fight for Iraq" or Barbara whatshername from Washington with her breathless assessments re ongoing DC nonsense. Or, get this, further breathless two hour late 'exclusives' covering Anna Nicole Smith's take your pick 'baby's daddies, Stern Birkhead, ZsaZsa's hubby, and constant speculation from any number of legal 'experts' and 'probate' know it alls most of whom haven't got a clue as to what is going to happen in this matter.
Now they are presenting the same tired rhetorical news outlines during the week! What is wrong with these people? Are they getting ready to go off the air?

A lot of their stuff is rubbishy, and they are certainly NOT "the most trusted name in news" as they advertise. ( with the exception of Lou Dobbs and a couple of others.)

They seem to be catering to the lowest common denominator now.

It's not that important, I suppose, but lately it has become virtually unwatchable.

I would love to find a decent news network that is not so "it's all about us" in their coverage.

Any suggestions?

There's a programme on BBC2 tomorrow night about possible conspiracies on the events on 9/11. Do you believe that terrorists actually hijacked planes or weather the U.S government was behind it to justify the 'War On Terror'?

First there was the tainted spinach in Cal, then there was the tainted lettuce at Taco Bell, and now Jiff Peanut Butter. Not to mention viruses going around that closed down a few hospitals in NC. Is it terrorism? nature? or just plain lack of care in processing food and health care?

Read about Indonesia's ban on sand... And from what i read, it's the ban on concreting sand?

How about sand for beaches? Are the sand used for beaches and golf courses the same type of sand? If the sand are different, then where do sand for beaches and golf courses come from? The sand are finer than the concreting sand i think? Found this topic interesting :)

Ok let me begin with a little background first. Any British people will probably know what im on about here. During the week I watched an episode of Top Gear involving the 3 presenters driving across the US in old cheap US made vehicles, eventually arriving in New Orleans to sell on their cars to the locals.

I am assuming the programme was recorded fairly recently ie within the last month or 2.

However to their horror and I would say the viewers horror upon arrival in New Orleans it appears that apart from the subsiding of the floodwaters New Orleans resembles the war torn streets of Mogadishu in Somalia!!!!!

My question is this - How can any American be proud of their country when their president and government has simply failed to act. If this was a predominantly 'WHITE' area i bet it would be totally rebuilt with memorials all over the place.

it is simply the most blatant act of Racism I have ever encountered & I am not easily shocked.

I feel sorry for you people !!

I just woke up and read yahoo news and there in the headlines are 2 more suicide bombings, one in Iraq killing 9 innocent people at a market and another in Pakistan killing 15 people in a courtroom. What makes these people resort to such barbarism and why do they hold life in such low esteem?

They baked him in the oven while alive. They are going to jail. I think they need to be baked in the oven alive. Or better yet, while they're in jail, someone should give them the beating of their lives. I hope someday they realize what real pain is.
