I planted Romaine lettuce in my garden and it finally looks like its done. We tasted it and all 4 plants are extremely bitter. What gives? I had to fertilize it with a veg fertilizer and I made sure I washed it well. Any ideas? I planted other plants as well in that garden....zuccinni, cucumber, cabbage, carrots, strawberries, melon, Onions, leek, peas, and I think thats it.

My hubby & I have finished the inside of our 1st home (starter) and now we have been doing things in the yard (cleaning up the flower beds, trimming trees, etc...). We have a big back yard & a small front yard, but I want to know of some ways to make them a little more appealing. I want people to come over & say "Oh, your yard is adorable/cute/charming. Any IDEAS/accessories we can use??? We want to put a square of those stepping stones to make like a patio of some sort. HELP!!

I wanted to plant them in the rocks around my house. The rock is about 16 inches deep. But concerned that they may spread and get out of control. What perennials would be best? Something that doesn't spread. Grows upward. Easy care. I have alot of sun.

I need to know how to kill grass in a backyard. I already know gasoline does, but i was looking for a safer alternative. It would help if what killed the grass was a common household item.

The previous owner of my home planted ornamental grass (not entirely sure what type) and I'd like to remove it. It was not maintained and is now over fence-height. Additionally, the blades of grass are sharp like blades and it has to be handled with gloves or you get paper-cut type cuts all over. It has a very deep root system and seems to have a root bulb about 3 foot wide underground and supplementary roots that are quite long. I can't burn it, since we live in a residential area and digging it up seems almost impossible. Any advice or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I have a very weedy lawn area. I want to strim it, then spray glyphosate to kill these weeds, then I want to cultivate it, rake it, fertilise and lay turf on top. But how long do I need to leave the weeds after spraying? Like can I just spray them and dig them in straight away, and they will die? Or do I need to leave them a couple of weeks until their brown, before digging them in?

I was wondering if anyone knew about lucky bamboo. I just bought some and it has the roots on the bottom and 1 node where a small leaf is coming out on top. The problem is I want it to be shorter. If I cut it in half, will the bottom half grow a new node, and will the top half grow new roots...or will both just die? You can do that to many plants and since bamboo looks so simple I thought maybe..but I'd ask you guys first.
