I love fresh herbs and have an outdoor kitchen herb garden in the spring and summer each year. So I've become spoiled and no longer want to use dried, store bought herbs. This year I decided to make one indoors. I planted seeds of common kitchen herbs (parsley, rosemary, marjoram, etc) per seed package directions. They are in small pots on my kitchen counter with a grow light over them. I watered them thoroughly two days ago when I planted the seeds and assume I should water them a bit each day.

My questions: How long should it take before something green peeps out? Should I cover the pots with plastic wrap as suggested on one website to keep in moisture and heat? Anything else I should be doing.

Thanks for any help. I've never done seeds before - have always planted plants in the outdoor garden.

Along the walkway to our house, there's a patch of flowerbeds, which is almost completely in shadows all the time. It's got some impatiens, some violets, and some other flower I can't remember the name for that looks like the impatiens, but with rounder leaves, and a woddier stem.

One night, there was a vicious cold snap, and about two thirds of the flowers in the bed got frosted pretty much to death. Since I live in Southern California, I wasn't really expecting this, and don't really know what I can do about it.

While tips for prevention in the future are welcome, I don't expect this to happen too often, so I'm mostly worried about what I can do to get them looking better again in the near future. Please help, they look horrible!

We had tempertures in the low 20's for several nights. In the morning, ice was on all of the plants. Because of the cold, all trees and shrubs have some degree of damage. Most plants are showing the damage with browning of the leaves and dropping of the fruit. What I need to know is will my Orange and Lime trees recover? Both trees look terrible, the leaves are currled and discolored and all fruit blossems are falling off. Is there anything I can do to help these two trees recover?

I am the maintainance supervisor at an apartment complex. We have had a water problem in the basement crawlspaces for some years. The owner has now agreed to fix the problem. My question is can a soakaway (drywell) be built successfully in clay soil? We had a landscape contractor come in and say yes if the soakaway is large enough. But we have also had a general contractor come in and say definately no. We have had several other contractors come in but all with different ideas.

If you know of any websites that would be great too. Any help with this is appreciated.

At a nursery I saw a "vine peach" plant advertised as tasting like a peach-mango mix. Does it really taste like that or is it just another kind of melon flavor? I understand it's in the melon family.
