I lost the installation sheet, but have a pretty good idea of how it goes in. I just need to have a few specifics on tools and extra material, possibly, do pergo add-ones go with them, etc...

Thanks

I want to install hardwood floors in my house, but I need to raise the bottoms of the door frames up about a 1/2 inch. How would I do this? Is there a saw for this type of cutting? Do I need to take the frame off?

I have a DeWalt DC410KA cut off tool and I need to cut through some 3/4" think carbon steel alloy rods. What type or brand of cut off disc should I use? Is the general purpose disc going to be up to the task? Thanks.

I'm preparing a work site and need to hook up five or six 1000 watt work lights to properly light the area at night. I have an outdoor outlet onsite, but that's five or six thousand watts of juice, which will surely blow a fuse or tip a breaker. Is there any way I can run the lights off the commercial power without doing that? Is there a capacitor or something I could buy?

Every time that I return to the Y/A question categories, that stupid Orkin ad with the roach getting mugshots pops up in that little window (upper left)
I would'nt mind, but the sound effects of the camera are totally annoying!! Is there some way that that thing can be changed or silenced without muting my computer or turning on my media player?? Is there anybody else out there that thinks that thing should go?? Makes me not want to call Orkin if I need an exterminator.

I have property in Northwest BC (about 60 acres near Terrace). My wife wants a place there which is more or less bear proof and refuses to stay in a tent while we do some work on the land.

Which will be the less expensive alternative: Buy a small prefab cabin and put it on concrete pillars (or other foundation), Buy a mobile and drag it onto the property? Or buy an RV and drive it up then drive it back.

I'm leaning towards a small prefab cabin but would love other ideas. Also, any idea how much it costs for a concrete slab foundation for a 16x20 cabin (is it really necessary?)

I'm going to cut some 12 mm wide strips of MDF ( 30mm thickness) using a table saw, and I want to finish off the cut surfaces but without using a sander. I was wondering if a surface planer would be ideal.

I would obviously guess that running a piece of MDF through this type of machine is not going to get the material super smooth like you would get using a sander, but how smooth would the surface be.

Basically, as long as it takes out any saw cut marks from using the table saw that would be OK.

I recently replaced the motor coupling by laying washer on its back. Could that have gotten water in the water level switch or valve and ruined it?

I have pergo that stops 1" from the carpet in a doorway. The carpet originally ran into the hallway but it was cut and replaced with pergo. If I install the 4-in-1 as directed the directions indicate to butt the molding up to the carpet. What do i use to hold the carpet down? (i'm assuming you'd be able to lift the carpet up).

I have a very old little house - all crooked, dugout, etc. - that is very cute but I'll never get out what I've already put into it (fireplace, new windows, laminate flooring etc). Now I would like to lay broken ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathroom. I can get the tile for free because it's chipped or broken and the mosaic looks great (I did it around my fireplace) and it hides the crookedness. However, I don't want to have to hire a carpenter and buy wood as a base - I want to do this on a tight budget. The tile sales person says there is a different cement I can use on a linoleum floor so I can just lay it over top. Apparently its much more expensive but it's available.
Because it's small pieces I don't think levelling is such an issue. On the other hand the linoleum is water discolored from a time when my washing machine broke. What do you think? Can I do it? Or should I lay wood first - I have to hire someone to do that - can't do that myself.
