Don't want to be deceiving anyone that buys my house when I sell it one day. I want to just make the ceilings pretty for us while we are living here. We have been talking A LOT about just hanging more drywall over it (would that be too heavy), thought about trying to scrape it and mud it (even with a bad arm) or just simply painting it. I am certainly not going to hang a sign up for the next buyers of this house "Hey, I got popcorn"!! They will see what I saw. A house that might need this and that. We have added one room on to the house and it is a wooden sunroom so we thought even a little tan paint with wood trim of some sort to blend in. See............not trying to cheat or hurt anyone. I just want something nice while I am here for however long that might be. This popcorn has been our only real delima of fixing this fixer upper we bought. I love all the answer but I am not trying to cheat my next buyer. Wow, some of the responses I got!! Any more nice answers?

We pulled a bit off the wall with a hammer and chisel and are looking at what is beneath. It looks like it is possibly waterproof backerboard. What is the best way to do minimal damage to the wall so we won't have to do too much patching?

I live in Sacramento, CA, where the temperature often reaches 95°+ in May, and continues to rise to upwards of 105° (and as high as 114°) until September. Would a portable air conditioner be appropriate for the climate here? Would it keep my dog and child cool enough in the summer months? A standard a/c will not fit in my window, so if I got one, my landlord would have to cut a hole in the wall to mount it, so when I moved out, I'd be forfeiting it!

I have an extra-small window that opens horizontally with only a 16-inch gap that I am going to need to install an air conditioner in. Is it safe to install an air conditioner sideways? There is no way I'll be able to fit it the normal way. All of my other windows are that dumb crank out kind that wouldn't work at all....

I'm tidying up the garage and I want install some wall hooks so that they will hold and secure 2 really heavy metal folding sunloungers on the garage wall.

Is wall hooks even the correct term for what I need? Give me the tools and I can do the job. However I don't know what type of hooks I need... and the only hooks I've found so far seem only suitable for holding something lightweight such as a picture.

The hooks I'd need would sort of need to extend quite some distance outwards, so that the metal frame of the sunlounger can fit on each hook. I'm thinking like 3 metal hooks for each sunlounger. Any idea of where to find suitable wall hooks for heavy items?

Atm these stupid sunloungers take up too much space on floor of garage. She bought them for sunbathing in the garden. The number of arguments I've had with her for buying them behind my back in the first place........ too expensive and heavy and they take up loads of space when just on garage floor.

(rant over)
Thanks.

I want to buy some flagstones for a pattio/walkway in my garden. I'm going to put some irish moss inbetween the stones after I lay them out. But they dont really come in any colors Iike. Is there any type of paint I could use to paint flagstones? Perhaps if I put a clear coat finish over it after I was done?

It will be cut with a circular saw and then painted. I was concerned about splintering. It will only hold towels in the bathroom attatched to wall studs

I am ready to tile a kitchen island, it has the rough shape of "HOME PLATE", though not pointy. What is the best way to cover those odds angles effectively? Should I butt two edge tiles together? Also, I am not fond of the 16th inch spacing in tiles, I prefer 1/4 in gaps...any issues for the top of counter. The sides will be 1/8th gap.

I know nothing about this sort of thing and I don't have a whole lot of money to do anything fancy. What's the easiest and cheaest wa to ensure the ground is level so the shed will be placed properly?

We are replacing our gas cooker with an electric hob and eye level oven but kitchen design dictates that the existing cooker socket would need to be moved. The simple solution would be to lift the floor boards in the bedroom above and re-route the existing cable to the new location....but its not that simple... Directly above the 'run' is a fully fitted wardrobe.
Another solution would be to replace the existing socket with a 'junction' socket and spur to the new location (using correct cable size ) but i'm not sure if I am allowed to do this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I can't raise the height very much. Somebody used to make these bricks that were only about 1/2 inch thick, maybe a little more. I have no idea who made them or what they were called. The people at Lowe's, HD, and the one brick company I called acted like I was nuts when I asked about them. Have you ever seen anything like this? (I do know they're not Patio Pizzazz. They're exactly like bricks, just thin).

I read in Scott's Lawncare book that when replacing my sparkplug for the season i should shoot in 15ml (0.5oz) of Motor Oil into the spark plug hole. My lawnmower is a gas driven. I used a suringe needle to do the job and it squirted in pretty fast. I then slowly pulled the cord of the engine to move the oil around to lube the engine. When i then offically started the mower (sparkplug reattached) i found that my mower began to smoke up (white smoke) and heard lots of popping sounds from muffler. I then turned it off and noticed splatters of oil just under the muffler area of mower. I then reasoned that my action of shooting oil may have done this.

OR IS IT POSSIBLE, that my tipping the lawnmower up (sparkplug up in the air) may have caused the existing oil in the system to somehow cause problems. OR even another possiblity, i just changed my Air filter on the mower and maybe it is not in correctly...

OR maybe when i changed the sparkplug it is Miss Firing?

I'm looking to use a CNC router table to flycut the top surface of some wood. Importantly, I need the surface to end up quite rough e.g the type of rough cut surface you would get from cutting some wood using a circular saw (but without any machining marks). Which router blade should I use to achieve this? Or is it more a case of reducing the router cutting speed. Whenever I have used a router to cut wood, the cut surfaces have been left quite smooth.

I recently went to a "Pool School", which was basically an advertisement for BioGuard's brand of chemicals. I'd like to know exactly what chemicals I need on hand to keep my pool maintained. Should I go with a "program" of chemicals offered by BioGuard or some other company and stick with that exclusively? Or is it possible to buy everything I need at WalMart, KMart or Target and will it do as good a job? What are everybody's recommendations? (Leave the Wal-Mart hatred out of this, please.)

Maybe i dont understand how spark plug works but from what i gather, spark plugs are the spark that starts the combustion process in the engine...So when i pull the cord on my lawnmower it essentially creates electricty to start that "FIRST" spark by the spark plug starting the combustion...What i dont get is how the Spark Plug continues to "spark" and keep the engine running after my first cord pull?
