I'd suggest taking and drilling a hole in the metal frame and ends of slats to allow you to put a nut and bolt through and anchor the slats.
If you are unable to do that, some gorilla glue oughta hold for a while.

I agree with every answer so far, but you didn't add some important details. On a metal, often a collapsable frame, there may not be box spring supports. If so it's often just a heavy gauge wire type thing. The Box spring should be self supporting.
That said,,, I built a few beds in my time,,,one for my kids, a bunk bed, and it had wooden slats. I measured the separations, marked each slat, and on each side I screwed in pieces of the same wood, to keep the slat from sliding one way or the other.
Certainly without detail of your situation others have made valid suggestions. If it is a metal frame and you have to have box spring slats, then you can screw the slats into the frame with the proper screws, OR, screw angle braces on eiter side of each slat as I did on the wood frame beds I made,,,and/or most importantly the slats should fit pretty snug perpendicular to the frame structure itself, no matter what you do to secure the slats.

Sounds like the slats are too short. Have some new ones cut or purchase more from a furniture store. As a last resort, you could prop them up with a large can or block.

Get longer slats and add a couple. Then if you still have problems countersink the bolt heads in the slats and drill the frame and use flat headed bolts and a washer and lock washer and a nut. (Or you can use self locking nuts, instead)
I would use 1/4 X 20 bolts and nuts.

Quick fix: Go to the hardware store or home improvement center, & pick up a roll of adhesive backed velcro, & velcro the slats to the bed frame. That'll hold 'em!!
Hope this helped, good luck!!

Your local hardware store should have small, plastic clamps with cushioned jaws (will keep squeaking down). Stanley is a common manufacturer of these clamps. Sears also carries such a product. Clamp the board to the angle frame.

You may need to run a small chain(swingset type chain) from the botom of one frame rail to the other. Place a adjustment device called a turnbuckle with the chain also. Once installed, tighten up the chain with the turnbuckle to pull the two frame rails together.

I suggest you drill them at the styles and screw them in, or cut them all a lil bit longer and more of them for the weight.
