I live in zone 7 in Or and have raised dahlias for years, but it never hurts to ask what they like, especially since I have them with weedcloth around them, how much water do they need ? I hear they are from mexico originally so they must like the heat and little water ? Our Or coast grows them huge so ???

I took out my old carpet and decided to use it in my back yard, fenced area, because my flower beds are huge and very lush and love to grow weeds. The carpet seems to work so well especially between my dahlias and roses etc.to keep the weeds down but lets the water in. Are there bad things it might do to my plants. I am going to maybe cover it with bark if that sounds good ???? ideas from those who know not who guess ??

My wife has her friend wanting to give us a 3 year old electric dryer and with the heat here in southern California currently, the possible rolling blackouts of electricity - we have both gas and electric hook ups, however we are currently paying a small fortune in electric, due to having to run the air conditioner. Need something sensible to explain to either myself or my wife about the pro's and con's of an electric dryer - please and thank you.....

I live in a manufactured home that sits on a solid foundation. My front yard slopes towards the house and my backyard slopes away from the house. There is a partial french drain on about a third of the front part of my house but it doesn't keep up with the drainage I need when we get some pretty good storms. I'm afraid with all the moisture that gets under my house i'll end up with mold, mildew, bugs and snakes under my house and i'm not sure what i can do to solve the problem. I've thought about digging down some and putting rock down to see if this would help. Any idea's?

I have two apple trees in my back yard that I believe are red and yellow (or golden) delicious variety. They both have these spots on their leaves that are leaving them looking very sickly. There was a late freeze this year that caught them while they were blooming but I have other apple trees that are a different variety that don't have this condition. I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest a cause and if there is anything I can or should do for the trees. Thanks in advance for any help.

I live in Texas, and it has rained about 100 feet of water this month. My Bradford pear tree lost all of its leaves after they turned brown. If you touch the tree, it is really squishy......waterlogged. All of the nurseries are saying to give up because they want to sell me a new tree. They are saying "cottony root rot". Well, when you scratch the branches.....under the bark is still green. Is there a chance to live or should I hack away?

I am sprucing up my yard big time and my flower beds are rich, very amended and lots of them and I think landscapers told me before to blow in or use a very fine bark because it keeps the soil moist and keeps the weed seeds out and I have noticed that as I see professional businesses this is what they do. I grow a lot of dahlias and Connells and Swan Island has said never spray like weed killer anywhere around them as it goes into the soil and into the tubers and poof, no more dahlias, so I have to get the best in bark mulch I can, altho a little at a time as I am on a fixed budget. so landscapers, bark ?????

I grow some roses in OR zone 7, and they do fine, but I just bought 5 more and I want to plant them where they will be really happy. I have good soil and raise a lot of flowers and it is hot here in the summer altho it gets cool at night. It seems that if they get any a.m. shade, they tend towards mildew on their leaves and I think they like a.m. sun with afternoon shade, as do most plants here. Any good suggestions besides spraying and all ? Or any new info on raising happy rose plants. They are hybrid teas.

Before the Dawn/Hydrogen Peroxide mixture, I tried vinegar and salt to remove the red wine stain (I spilled a HUGE full glass on this new carpet). Now I have red wine stains AND blue stains from the blue Dawn dishsoap I used!!! Help! How do I get rid of the prominent blue????? I don't want to keep dousing my rug with liquid upon liquid only to make the stains worse or produce mold. Anything you have tried that works... please let me know!!!

I don't have a dishwasher in my house, so all the dishes in the house are washed by hand. They are usually placed in a dish rack to dry, but all the ones I've had lately either break or rust very easily. I've had plastic, metal, and plastic-covered metal racks and they've all failed me. I haven't gotten a wooden one because most of the designs are too small. Any advice on which brand/type of dish rack to get. Thanks!!

I have a cut in my bedsheet that I'm afraid will run if I don't fix it. How do you sew a straight tear so that the ends won't keep tearing? I know with stockings I just dab some clear fingernail polish, but these are nicer sheets. Does anyone know where I can find illustrated directions? I've tried searching to no avail.

Hi,I moved into my house in January (first time buyer) and have just discovered a leak in thr kitchen coming through a joice. I think it is coming from a water pipe leading from the bathroom down to the kitchen but we do not have a clue where the stop tap is too turn the main water off and if we find it will thsi stop the leak until we can fix the problem? Its not in the bathroom or under the sink in the normal places out whole bathroom is tiled (bath cistern everything) I doubt it could be behind the tiles because surely it would need to be accesable does anyone have any idea where the stoop tap could be????!!!!!
