The easy answer is get an electrician to connect it. At least you know it is done right and you will not be possibly creating a hazard.

HERE'S THE ANSWER:
When you say that you have a red wire you don't specify if that is part of the fan or is in the ceiling box (part of the house wiring) If the red line is in the ceiling it may be part of a three way switch (dual control) but if so it would be connected and only pass through the box. The operating circuit would never use both hots at the fixture. If the red is part of the fan it is for the light kit. Connect the red and black both to the black (hot) in the ceiling. When the wall switch is on everything will work and will be controlled by the pull chains. They don't make two phase fans for ceilings, for God sake the blades would fly off, and unless your home were wired specifically for multi-speed control through the wall switch (you'd know) the extra wire is not for a second speed.

You haven't given enough info. Do you have a black, white, red, and green from your ceiling box, or from your fan. Usually the fan has a black, which goes to the black house wire, and white which goes to the white house wire, usually a blue, which is the wire for the light fixture on the fan, and it goes with the black wires, and a green which is a ground and will go to a bare wire from the house wires or under a screw on the ceiling box. If you have a red from the fan read the instructions to see if it is the power for the fan light fixture and put it with the black wires. If you have a red wire from the ceiling box then you probably have two switches in the room that control the ceiling box. If this the case I would suggest an electrician.

this is not that hard the white is common white to white
Then black is hot join blk to blk
red is a hot leg for a two way switch- that is if you have two switches in the same room to turn the light on and off. If you do not have twoway switches put a wire nut on the red and tape it.
The green wire connects to ground to prevent shock so screw it to the box or wire nut it to others in the box if there in there.
Also the fan may have a two speed motor so be sure not to join the low and high speed wire together. Good luck please make sure you turn the power off before starting this project and every thing should go well for you.

I don't know what the red is, but the green is ground. It should be connected to the metal box inside the ceiling. There should be a screw to attach the wire to.
