I am getting ready to renovate a house...or hire someone to do it. Anyway, I am having someone take down the accoustic popcorn ceiling...I just hate it. And I want to repaint. I want a smooth modern look. But my mother-in-law is swearing that I have to put a texture down first. She says I have to use a "knock down" texture than I can repaint it. She says no one has a smooth ceiling, that everyones has a knock down texture. I am looking at my current house's ceiling and it doesn't look like I have any texture at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can someone settle this for us?

I stupidly wore a very lovely Pucci swimming costume on the beach and then got shore dumped by a very big wave. Funny at the time, but now I'm left with a gorgeous swim suit that has sand granuals imbedded in the fabric. It's not so bad on the coloured patches but on the white bits it looks like the costume has fleas! I've tried hand washing it and rubbing at the sand whilst its dry but any tips would be wonderful. Thank you

We are renting a house and the floors are awful in the kitchen. Need some really cheap ideas on how to replace them. We were thinking laminant or vinyl, but if we get the kind that look like wood floors, does it look really cheap? Any other ideas on cheap types of floors or refinishing what we have?

I heard mixed reviews on this idea. Please tell me how to install tile over tile. For the people who say it's a bad idea, please explain why using ceramic tile as a subfloor is inferior to a concrete or wood subfloor? There has to be a legitimate explanation other than "it's not the right way"

I got sod laid down in Feb of this year. When we got it, it was brown obviously due to the weather. It is growing out now and is nice and green, but it's in patches.

Is this normal? How can I get the whole thing to grow out?

I laid down fertilizer in the Spring and we water it for an hour everyday.

Pls help.

I just planted my first garden. I have put tomatoes plants, cucumbers, squash and watermelon. The tomatoes had fruit already on it when I planted them and now the fruit has been ruined by some animal (thinking a bird) How can I protect them from further damage. I am on a strict budget so if any one has any ideas with things around the house that would be great. I live in an area I dont have to worry about deer just small animals. Please help.

I have a beautiful Wisteria that blooms on a pergala in my back yard. It attracts a HORRIBLE amount of wasps. Can I use regular wasp spray on the Wisteria without it dying?

I have a queen size mattress on my chestbed. I don't have a boxspring as I figure the firm top surface of the chestbed makes this obsolete...and, that it would probably cause me to use a ladder to climb into bed each night. My question is this: I was told I need a "special" mattress designed to sit on top of a wooden chestbed. I've searched around and have never heard of such a thing -- has anyone out there?

One day I took my laundry downstairs into our basement and left it on the floor in my basket becuase my mom told me I had to wait to do mine becuase she needed to wash my sheets. My brother needed a basket and dumped my clothes on the floor and took it. My clothes were left on the floor when the basement flooded. I wasn't home at the time and got stuck at a friends house for several days until the road was back in service and i got home and NO ONE HAD TAKEN MY CLOTHES OFF THE FLOOR WHEN THE WATER WAS GONE!!! So they grew mold in some spots and there are a few choice peices I would do anything to save, but have no idea how. A lot of it I am just replacing, but some of it means something to me and if theres a way to save it i'd like to try.
