Just plant the seed, that would be fine. My question is where did you get the seed? If from a fruit that you bought at a store then forget it. Store apricots are not the best and you can get a much better variety from your nursery or by mail order. It takes such a long time to produce any apricots from a seed start that why waste time if the fruit is only going to be so so.

Plant the hard seed in a container and start it inside by placing it on a south facing window. Give the seed a leg up by taking a few swipes with a file in the side of the seed that hangs from the branch.

Another way to do it is to pour boiling water over it. It sort of jilts inside a little and also helps break the hard shell afterwards because it will react to the harsh treament you've given it. Then put it in warm place(in soil) where it can get as much sun to germinate. Don't water too much- it will just rot. but monitor the progress by making sure there's enough moisture and it doesn't get cold soil.
