If so, how long did it take for you to get better? Do you feel PTSD can be cured or only managed? Can others tell you're suffering from some form of anxiety when they meet you, even though you're working again and are productive? I'm especially interested in hearing from those who have PTSD which results from being abused as children and/or raped.

I'm an adult survivor of childhood abuse and currently dealing with severe anxiety, and possibly ptsd. Has anyone found a competent yet caring PSYCHOLOGIST from Illinois(near chicago) who treats these concerns?

I'm open to different locations if the therapist is located in chicago, or nearby suburb(no more than an hour away). Very few social workers and counselors seem to have enough experience with trauma clients. However, if anyone knows of someone who does, I'm open to meeting them for an initial interview.

It must be someone with years of EXPERIENCE treating trauma patients, who has had SUCCESS with various clients. I know many professionals with tons of clients, and none of their clients have improved, and many even committed suicide, or gotten worse. Also, someone reasonably priced would be great, under $80 if possible, but if not, still mention their name and location. Thanks

I have no education on the field, but have read a lot on the subject. He has already done a lot of mental damage to many of my friends, and he keeps "attacking" persons I love and care about. I'm afraid to be falsly accusing him, but I fear for my friends. Also it's hard to stay away from this guy, seeing how he has an extremely magnetic personality. Any advice, please?

I know manic-depressants who are either *down* or *up*, happy or sad. Most of the things I've heard or seen described in those with pi bolar disorder are in regards to tenderness vs hostility or intense anger. This presents the notion that they may, in fact, be two separate, albeit related, disorders, displaying different characteristics. Is this fact, or just my twist on things I've seen or read/heard about? (I'm a little manic depressive myself, but not hostile or angry.)

get your psychiatrist to understand that your depression symptoms come from your very toxic parents and that you need to break away from them without them thinking that it is just your "negative thoughts" ie that those thoughts are not part of your "negative thinking/irrational thinking" symptoms but is in actual fact your reality and is what will make you feel better???? argh this is so so important to me!!!! .........
please only those who see psychiatrists themselves or know enough about things like this reply thanks...

Dr. put me on Zoloft a few months ago, I took it for 4-5 weeks and stoped.
Today he put me back on it, unfortunatly the depression is much worse and he didn't give me a straight answer on how long it will take to build up in my system enough to feel better.
Does anyone know for sure?

People on answers keep confusing its symptoms with bi polar disorder. Its giving me a freaking headache, especially since they aren't even describing bipolar disorder ---they are describing borderline personality disoder. The difference between bipolar disoder and borderline personality disorder is the LENGTH OF TIME associated with the mood swings, and also the emotional vulnerablity associated as symptoms. Now, fyi, people, the only disorder that "should" actually be confused with schizophrenia is dissociative identity disoder (which was previously multiple personality disorder) and only that can be confused in one in four cases of DID that has symptoms of auditory/visual hallucinations. Please people, know what you are talking about before you diagnose people. sheesh. 10 points to the best definition. Of any of these disorders.

i've been in inpatient treatment facilities since I was 12 and am now 18. I just got released from the last treatment facility on June 26th & am now free.
When I was 12, my parents started worrying about me because I became "antisocial", difficult to deal with, moody, bored with life, doing terribly in school, and had emotional outbursts. I was placed in a psychiatric hospital for four months and when I came out I was sent away to a boarding school in Utah for "troubled kids". Two years later I was transfered to another treatment boarding school in Utah and stayed there until now. I honestly no longer have emotions. the medication and isolation from family and friends has just made me numb. Now im thinking, was it really worth of my parents to spend all that money on this? I feel no better or worse.I personally am against medicating and hospitalizing kids and teens. I believe people diagnose kids with mental illnesses way too often these days. What do you think?
and what should i do?

Is it really worth it to take medication for mental health disorders, or should you at least try to deal with it without it. it seems to me that they are constantly trying to suppress the symptoms without treating the problem. According to them i should be on antidepressants (SSRIs), antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers, as well as sleeping pills,,,and yet i function well in day-to-day life.
