The gut is considered "the second brain" because the intestines have their own nervous system and can even make decisions independent of the brain. Actually, there is a great book called "The Second Brain". Anyway, 95% of serotonin is made in the gut. Serotonin is a feelgood neurotransmitter and helps alleviate anxiety and stress. Your intestines are very sensitive and are an intregal part of your emotional health. So, the short answer is yes. You need to find ways to reduce stress, maybe improve diet or even consider talking to a dr. about meds that will help serotonin levels.

I have battled with anxiety too. Therapy is very expensive, but well worth it, and it has really worked for me. So if you can not afford a psychologist, then I recommend, The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook, by Eugene Bourne. I also recommend reading A Path to Happiness, by the Dahlia Lama. Exercise, more whole foods, etc....more sex! also helps! I don't know your age, but my anxiety kicked in in my late 30's and it was triggered by my mom's death. And hormones and getting older also can bring on anxiety. I never would have believed how much talking to my therapist about my negative family and my childhood helped me grow and really become an adult! Therapy is work and that is why Md's give you Paxil or something, because they know we are lazy and want quick results. Anxiety is not easily treated with long term drugs, studies aren't to promising. Since therapy, I still get little attacks and have xanax on hand to put under my tongue or if I know I am going to get stressed, like visiting family, I will take what my doctors recommends. Good luck, do some research and hug your kids! Life is fun, and being a little anxious may just be part of you, and like I said, menopause brings it on so get a handle on it now!

Yes it can it can even kill you. Try to find what is making you get to this stage and see if you can find ways to avoid these situations if you are not capable of doing this then I do strongly suggest that you go and talk to a counselor these are people who can help you identify the areas where you need to work on and also to give you some direction.

absolutely, I think it's got something to do with the fight or flight response to a stressful situation. I know someone who has that problem. Would make a job interview kind of tough, don't you think?

Absolutely. All the nervousness can cause increased adrenaline, combined with the acids churning in your stomach, you could suddenly vomit before you know it.
