I heard that multi vitamins might not help you and maybe actually do some harm. Any truth to that?

My wife had a tummy tuck and breast lift three weeks ago. The doctor (in Colombia) has been using laser treatment to reduce scarring. Now that she is coming back home are there any good products for reducing cosmetic surgery scars? I just saw an ad on TV for Mederma. Has anyone used that or some other product? Were they useful?

I'd like details on the effects of smoking. I head that your blood sugar rises when you smoke? Does it constrict the blood vessels? I'd like to know specific things like that. Not generalized effects like wrinkles, lack of energy etc. I want to know WHY it causes wrinkles and why we have lack of energy and what is actually happening inside the lungs when we smoke. I also heard it can cause bladder cancer. Why? What is happening in the body to cause that? Thanks for your help.

I have a very large hernia...and every week or every two weeks, I have an episode. It is so painful for about 4 hours,I always throw up, cant bend, and am in severe pain. Then it goes away as fast as it came.

The doctor wont do surgery to repair it yet, because I am on high doese of prednisone for a lung disease. She said it would probally happen again, and those on prednisone dont heal well. She said larger hernias are not as serious as small ones. Its an incesional hernia from a c-section. So its about the same size as the c-section scar. Its gross!

I am a nurse, and really enjoy answering medical questions. But, I really hate it when ppl cut and paste five hundred million pages of info- info they have no clue about. Who the heck is going to read all that? When I answer a serious medical question, I say it in plain english- if I obtain additional info from the internet, I extrapalate only pertinant info and again put it in words that ppl can understand. ( I give credit to the website where I got the info- I certainly don't know everything ) This is the same way I do teaching with my patients. I wish ppl would stop cutting and pasting useless info. It's very annoying.

I just got one this morning, the doctor was checking to see if I've had chicken pox before. I'm really sure I had it before when I was younger, but whatever. Anyways.. I don't like 'em. I took my first blood test when I was around 8 years old. It wasn't pretty. I was kicking and screaming, tears rolling down my face like crazy. I never ever wanted to take one again for the rest of my life. Today, it hurt a lot.. but I sat there and took it like a man. I'm a woman by the way. ¬_¬

About 6 weeks ago, I noticed a hard knot, about the size of a bean, right at the base of my skull bone between my left ear and my spine. It doesn't go away. Some times it feels like it's putting pressure on that part of my head, because I'll get really bad headaches. And here this last week, there are times when I have to be careful when I move, because I get really dizzy. And the dizziness has lasted a good hour at times, which can be pretty scary. The only hospitals around here won't see you unless you pay a $100.00 examination fee before they'll treat you. In other words...they don't care. There's no money for a doctor's visit. Any suggestions on what's wrong with me? Serious answers only, please...God Bless!

I have a round knot that has come up on my outer right leg, about5 inches above my ankle. It came up really fast (about 5 minutes). It's about 2 inches round. I put ice on it but took it off when it didn't do any good. It's not a bruise and I didn't hit it on anything. anyone have any ideas? No $ for Doctors at the moment.

I am in good health, as far as I can tell just by how I feel and my abilities (aka I haven't been to a doctor but I don't notice any problems). Often times, when I have been laying down and I stand up I will feel intense dizzyness and my vision starts to fade out/black out/go blind. After a few seconds, this whole episode is gone and I feel fine. It never ever happens any other times. Sometimes it doesn't happen, and sometimes it will be minor and I can still continue. However, often times it is intense and I have to stop. It only lasts a few seconds, as stated above. Any ideas whats up?
