I am in good health, as far as I can tell just by how I feel and my abilities (aka I haven't been to a doctor but I don't notice any problems). Often times, when I have been laying down and I stand up I will feel intense dizzyness and my vision starts to fade out/black out/go blind. After a few seconds, this whole episode is gone and I feel fine. It never ever happens any other times. Sometimes it doesn't happen, and sometimes it will be minor and I can still continue. However, often times it is intense and I have to stop. It only lasts a few seconds, as stated above. Any ideas whats up?

it is because everyone's blood pressure has a tendency to drop when one is standing/sitting up from a laying down posture-this is called orthostatics but when it exceeds normal values(which can occur from a variety of reasons ),it can cause symptoms like yours-dizziness,black- outs, fainting ,blurry vision etc.
Most common causes are anemia, low blood pressure from dehydration, blood loss, vascular problems/heart problems etc.I would advise you to have your blood pressure checked in both arms in both laying down and standing postures and a hemogram to start with.If these are normal,I would see a physician to look at other causes.

What you are describing is called orthostatic hypotension. Blood pressure drops when going from lying to standing. Blood pressure is suppose to go up when going from a lying to a sitting position or from sitting to standing. We educate persons who have this, to make position changes slowly. When you are lying down and sit up, stay there for 15 - 30 seconds Then stand & stay there for another 15 - 30 sec. Next time you go to the Dr they can do orthostatic BP's to determine if this is what you have. They will do a BP lying, then sitting, then standing. In the meantime, make position changes slowly to see if that helps.

I had this for a while. I got a blood test and found out that I was anemic. I started taking iron supplements, and the problem eventually cleared up. But I've heard that you can also get that when your blood pressure is too low.
