Why can't I sleep? I have to wake up at 6:00 in the morning if I want to make it on the bus. Usually I can't get to sleep until around 1:00 AM and that's not enough sleep for me. Sometimes even up to 2am! I try watching tv, laying in complete silence, listening to music on low volume..

For some reason, I just cant keep my eyes shut. I'll close my eyes for half a minute but i'll open them without noticing for a while, I hate it. No matter how tired I am, I cant sleep! And when I finally fall asleep, I wake up a couple hours later!

What do you do to go to sleep and actually stay asleep, without taking medications?

I am 24 and I started getting migraines at a really early age. Some times a year it's better then others, but I generally get them at least once a week. Where I live we get chinooks (warm front that comes over the mountains) and it can be -20 one day and then plus +10 the next day, and if there's a chinook then I get a migraine. In the summer it's nice out and then starts to rain, I get a migraine. The doctor put me on difenac but it caused such severe stomach pains that it wasn't worth it. I've tried Immitrex as well and it didn't work. My doctor says that I get environmental migraines. Since I live at such a high altitude, that any change it pressure gives me a migraine. Does anyone have any sort of problem that is similar, and what has worked for you. My boyfriend suggested getting tested for diabetes.

I have thoracic outlet syndrome, it took the doctors 2 years to figure out what it was. I have tried physical therapy and massage therapy and going to the chiropractor everday. With no relief I have had to stop doing all the things that I loved so much before this problem came about...riding quads, jet skiing, hiking, swmming, and anything else that is fun. Now it is getting progrssively worse...my fingers are going numb and cold more often and the thought of getting out of bed in the morning sometimes makes me cry because of the pain. I have finally had it! I need to find a solution to my problem. I have been talking with my doctor about treatments. Neurolesion was one of them (shots in my back muscles) but I am affraid of needles... or surgery (to remove my extra rib on my right and left sides) I am terrified of that too. So I am wondering who out there has ever had any of these treaments and how they went. Anyone with any advice, PLEASE tell me!!

It gets to pains. Does anyone relate

I guess I’ve twisted my ankle. I was walking down the steps at the university’s library Tuesday night and neglected to notice that last step, so I sort of toppled down the last few stairs. My ankle swelled up immediately, and I have a nasty bruise. I didn’t get to put ice on it for four or five hours, since I had a group project to work on. So, I walked a half- mile to my car and drove home on it (it’s my right ankle and it takes me half an hour to get home), which I think was a bad idea. I also have done some walking around campus over the last two days, going to work and classes and such. I have been icing it once or twice a day and wearing an ace bandage, and during the day there isn’t too much pain. The pain is at the top of the ankle. I seem to have almost full range of motion. (And I know I’m not supposed to limp.) So, my question is, is this sprain very severe? When can I return to running and jump-roping to work out? Can I ride my horses? When I ride horses, I need to put my heels down. Also, my horses are young and require a lot of walking around on the ground (for me) when I’m exercising them before I ride. Are the horses a bad idea? I don’t want to do any damage. I’ve never sprained an ankle before and I don’t want it to become a chronic problem.

I have had a sore stiff neck now for 3 months, I have tried heat and it relieves soreness for a few minutes or so than it goes back to the way it was. I usually sleep on my back with my neck supported through the night, when I sleep on my side or my back (which has always been my preferred way to sleep) I wake up in a lot of pain and a lot of stiffness in my neck and shoulders. so I sleep on my back so that I wake up and I have at least 3 hours of feeling good. But than my neck and shoulders are sore all over again. somedays there is more pain and soreness than other days, the pain goes from my head (near my ear, mostly on my right side) all the way down to my left shoulder blade than toward my right mid-upper arm. I have tried aleve, naphroxen and even advil and tylenol nothing seems to work. does anyone have any suggestions?

I have suffered with chronic back and neck pain for years. When I was 12 I was in a bad accident. It busted my tail bone and hurt my back. I remember that the doctor told my parents that I shouldn't have any problems with it until later in life, he gave me a back brace, and that was all of it. Well, now I'm 32 and its come back to haunt me in the worst way. Sometimes I think that being dead would be better then having to deal with this constant pain every single day! Surgery is not an option right now because I am supporting myself and my son and I can't take the time off from work. How can I get my doctor to give me a good pain pill?! I have never asked for any before but it seems that doctors these days don't want to prescribe them. But I REALLY need them. I'm not a pill head. I'm in pain? What do I say to the doctor? Any suggestions?

I have quite bad pronation of my ankles (due to Marfan syndrome) and I'm waiting to see the podiatrist to get some prescription insoles made for my shoes. The waiting list is currently about 11 months long. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? I have some shop-bought inserts, but they don't work very well. Sometimes my ankles get really sore because of this. Recently I've started having problems with my hips as well and I'm sure the fact that I don't walk properly doesn't help.

Sometimes at night ill be sleeping or laying down for a awhile and then ill straighten my leg and then all of a sudden it feels like ive torn my calf and my calf tightens up hard as a rock and hurts like hell and it usually does that for a couple of minutes. Then it hurts for me to walk on it for a couple of days, it doesnt hurt to move with it, but it feels like im stretching it when i walk. its the calf thats on the inside of your leg(whenever you put your legs together they touch) that calf, i dont know the names of the two different muscles. Im only 17 and im very athletic, so im scared that if this keeps happening something might go badly wrong. so could somebody please tell me why this happens or what i could do about it? thanks

Both the pains are not constant but recurring and unrelated.
Sternum pain goes away after I manage to crack it. But I can't always crack and it can be very painful.
My right shoulder/back muscle sometimes becomes very painful, like I'm being stabbed with a knife and the skin around that area eventually feels numb. Moving my arm hurts and I have to hold it at a particular angle so that it won't hurt. This pain lasts anywhere from a few hours to a week. I've noticed that I got the shoulder pains after long shifts working as a waitress, going to the gym or sitting for prolonged hours infront of the computer.
Can this be solved by massage, a chiropractor or maybe acupuncture? Would the results be temporary?
I would be grateful for any recommendations!

I've just recovered from a common cold with a cough which caused my muscles in my chest area to really hurt, just before this I had some anxiety too which made me tremble sometimes without me even wanting to so I also think this has had an effect on my chest also. I have mostly recovered from the cold now and the stress is going but i've been left with really achy muscles around the chest area, particually around my left side.
What are good methods to help muscles relax and get back to normal, I've been off college because of the soreness I've been in. I prefer sprays than taking tablets, any recomendations?

i think it might be fractured right now, im not sure.
if u read my other question, you would know what i am talking about.

i want to break it. because, as messed up as it is, i think putting it in a cast would make it feel batter. i know there could be complications, but to me, its worth it. i want a cast so i can fix it & it wouldnt hurt so bad.

what are some simple ways u broke ur wrist or someone u know broke theirs? or just some ways? please help

i dont like the whole "brick to your wrist" idea. it would be kind of hard to explain to my parents how a brick "fell" on my wrist

&no im not crazy & dont need to be institutionalized

ps; im a 13 year old girl [14 in a month & 3 days] idk if that matters

I have been doing massage therapy for 10+ years and am very toned with the muscles I use giving massage. I feel that much of the pain I feel is from an imbalance of muscles. I have started working out at the gym and would like to focus on the muscles that I don't work so much with my profession.

I should know the answer to my own question, as I know the muscles of the body very well, but I feel a personal trainer or physical therapist would be better qualified to give me some instructions. Thank you.

For the past few nights, the joints in my shoulders and hips have been hurting so much, that I have been on the verge of screaming. I cried myself to sleep the other night cause the pain so almost unbearable.
I had a slight case Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was a kid and even had to use a walker for a couple of months.
It comes and goes, but seems to come as the seasons and or temperatures change.
I use to be prescribed painkillers for these occurences, but have currently run out. I need something to help ease the pain in my hip and shoulder joints. I am trying to get into a specialist, but haven't had any luck. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be able to sleep and wake up without pain. What can I do?
