My cousin was in a motorcycle wreck last week that he somehow survived.
His first night in the hospital he was pretty much out of it (he has suffered some memory loss) but his mother wasn't allowed to stay the night with him because of "hospital rules".
Well, apparently he tried to get up out of bed in ICU, and didn't realize everything he was hooked up to and wound up falling over and falling on his face - literally.
Now - he was in ICU and wasn't being checked on like he should have been, and he wasn't found until someone passing by saw him on the floor (a guest of the hospital - not even a nurse!).

First question - why is immediate family not allowed to stay the night if they elect to in certain hospitals?

Second question - does my aunt have a case against the hospital for negligence on their part? I mean, he was in ICU and it took a guest to find him on the floor, and this accident could have been prevented if his mother had stayed the night.

I'm a smoker (soon to be ex-smoker, I hope) who has smoked for more than 20 years. I'm ready to quit and I want and need to quit.

However, my insurance refused to cover a prescription for Chantix, saying that is was not "medically necessary". Huh. Okay...whatever...I paid for it myself, which cost over $120.

I have tried other methods to quit and all have failed. Or, I should say, I failed at them. Anyway, I heard about Chantix, did research on it, talked to my doctor about it and decided to try it. He wrote the script and I took it to my pharmacy. Surprise, surprise...they told me that my insurance flat out denied to cover it.

My question is this: how can quitting smoking NOT be medically necessary? How can an insurance company view it like that? I'm just having a very hard time understanding that. I mentioned to my doctor who stared at me in shock...as if to say "Say WHAT?!?!?!".

I fail to see the logic in that. Opinions, anyone?

My right arm is aching (wrist, elbow and now shoulder). I'm super tired and all I want to do is sleep. I can't do that because I have school today. I started my class at 8am and I will be done with my very last class at 9:20pm tonight. I can hardly keep my eyes open. I think I might go to my car and take a quick nap. I have my next class at 11am. Any adice how to get though the rest of the day. By the way I have a test in my last class so I'm stressing about that too. Please help quickly I might go to sleep in my car for a lil bit.

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and I was extremely sweaty and practically sticking to the bedsheets. My room temperature was -4 celcius or probably less.. Which is 20 something in Farenheit.

any ideas?

My boyfriend has done this 4 times in 1 year. He'll get really pale, say he doesn't feel good, then just FALLS to the ground and looks like he's sleeping. He'll wake up, still just as pale and remember nothing. ?? What is going on?

I have been a smoker for more than 20 years. I finally got to the point where I am absolutely sick of it. I'm sick of everything about it.

I got the prescription for Chantix filled yesterday. Of course my insurance says it's not "medically necessary" so they won't cover it and I paid over $120 for it.

I started this morning. I woke up 2 hours ago and so far, no cigarette. I know I can smoke for the first week on this medication but I really want to stop before then. I WANT to stop...I NEED to stop. I've tried so many other methods and failed miserably. It's so hard to quit smoking. Chantix is my last hope to quit this habit. Starting smoking is the dumbest thing I ever did.

Has anyone else tried this? Did it work for you? Do you feel better now? Any thoughts?

PLEASE no lectures on smoking...I've heard them all and I don't need to hear them again.
