Actually the anticipation leading up to the break--when you know that it's over but haven't done anything yet.

The 1st night sleeping alone in separate places of residence...

That's when it always "hit it home" for me...

That first night with a new address...or the old address...and she's got a new address...

It's happened 3 "major" times with me...

The Pain is so..."uniquely intense and different"...you almost get "paralyzed" mentally by it...like being in a "zombie-like" state for a few days...and ya' can't drink it away...don't work...nothing cuts thru that mental anguish...ya' just gotta' ride it out, and after a few days (hopefully) the main part of the pain goes away...and you start forming plans to meet someone new...which is the first sign you're dealing with it in a normal and healthy way...

Instead of wallowing in self-pity and despair...

I wish I didn't know so much about THIS topic...but...

Love is a "must have..." And ya' can't eat a pizza without the risk of the toppings sliding right off into you lap, rolling across the floor to forever more decay underneath the refrigerator...

Terrible analogy, I know...but right now...all this "break-up" pain talk has made me hungry...lol...

The cold empty spot on the mattress,
the cold empty hole in the heart.
The way the house is empty when you return to it...

No really, I mean everything was totally
and completely GONE!
only the lonely dust bunnies were left...

the memories, the longing, the long lonely nights,
spent stalking, uh, looking for another mate...

the not so distant sound of thumping keeping
you up at night...coming from the trunk, oops!

It deprends on who is doing the break-up.

I know that if i was the person who was breaking up then i would feel sad at the point that i might hurt the other person, but i would also feel alot better afterwards.

If my spouse was breaking up with me then i would feel very hurt.

that would be the time after. You want to call the person but know you shouldn't so the loneliest is the hardest part. You also start thinking of the what ifs or the good times.

When reality sets in. I guess about an hour after it really hit you that you have broken up. Then again I guess it all depends on the reason.

The isolated lonliness and feeling of abandonment that only goes away when comforted by another.
