I've been monitoring my serum cholesterol levels for some time now. I find that Physicians like to focus on the Total Cholesterol number while sometimes ignoring the HDL numbers - which are obviously atheroprotective - and thus reduce CHD risk. There's been a lot of work done (Framingham Study, etc.) which show that the Total Cholesterol/HDL ratio correlates better with CHD risk than Total Cholesterol alone. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks :-)

I have been having cardiac symptoms for almost a year, onsets of tachycardia which cause lightheadedness, weakness and shortness of breath. My cardiologist wants me to have a cardiac ablation done, and I was wondering if anyone knows the average cost of one. I found some figures to be $10,000-$15,000. I have insurance which pays the majority, but want to know how much I'd have to cover on my own.

I was suffering from a tight pain in my chest and become tired. This had been going on for a while but is getting worse now. I went to the doctor today, and he said my blood pressure was very high and he took some tests to figure out why. I don't do drugs, eat healthy, take vitamins, and exercise at leat 3 times a week. Its, likely my problem is from high stress from school, work, and life. He said he didnt know why my bp was so high for someone my age and condition. What could cause me to have high bp, stress or something else?

Whenever I take a DEEP breath 90% of the time I get an ache in the middle finger of my left hand.

I've tested it many times, it's not my imagination. Weird or what?

I cycle and am quite fit and have a fairly low resting pulse (55), high blood pressure in family history (mother) but mine is normal.

I'm not taking any drugs or medications. I eat a fairly healthy diet.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I am a 48 year old female. Out of the blue told I had a heart murmer.Had Echocardiogram and Transoesophageal Echogram.Neeed mechanical valve replacement and will need to take Warfarin for rest of my life. Fairly fit and well, blood pressure ok,just a little breathless at times. No real symptoms. Can any one tell me how this has come about as Consultant is baffled ? He usually does this kind of replacement on someone 25 to 30 years older than myself. Has anyone my age group had replacement valve? Will I still need antibiotic cover when having dental treatment after? All answers greatly appreciated.

HAs anyone ever had to have a Holter Monitor and an electrode falls off? I put the electrode on, but if keeps falling off every now and then. Is the test worthless at this point, or will it still be ok even though it has fallen off a couple times?
