hi. I am an EMT, Not a doctor. heart attack pain manifest its self in so many different ways. Although there is usually not swelling in the extremity during a heart attack there is always the exception. Heart attack pain usually radiates down the left side from the jaw to the shoulder into the arm.there may or may not be any chest pain. Usually these symptoms start and worsen with time. the typical chest pain with a heart attack is a dull ache, extreme tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, nausea, cold
sweat, a feeling of impending doom. even though there is swelling in the arm with pain is enough that you should be seen by a doctor. usually if you have symptoms of a heart attack, there is what is called the golden hour and if you arent sure about the pain or dont think it is bad enough please go to the doctor. your life is everything. after all with out you have nothing. you also might check into having an MRI herniated disc in the neck sometimes as well put off pain simular to a heart attack. that would cause swelling in the arm. please contact your doctor asap.

While left arm pain is suggestive of a heart attack, the swelling would cause me to think about other possible causes. Most people associate radiating pains in the left arm as diagnostic of a heart attack (myocardial infarction) but the heart itself has no nerves of its own to conduct pain so the pain is experienced in other areas...i.e. the left arm but may be referred to other areas too. One of my paitients had a mild heart attack and went to a dentist as the pain was referred to his jaw. Swelling suggests that there is an injury of some sort...physical or perhaps even a chemical or drug reaction causing the problem. Infections can also cause swelling, and with left arm pain and swelling, it would seem that this is likely...the lymph nodes of the arm pit would be swollen and perhaps even very tender to touch. In any event, the problem should be medically evaluated.

Pain is a sign but not swelling. See a doctor. It is possible you have a blood flow blockage.

no it is not in any way a miocardial infarction(heart attack)swelling is a sign of tendon or muscle damage or vascular problems in your circulation, it is very unusual for anyone under 60 to have problerms with vascular events unless you are grossly overweight,
the pain comes because their is an interuption to the normal blood supply, go see your gp but its definetly not cardiac related..
thanks
