Last week all of a sudden my grandfather started acting weird. He's 90 years old. He started breathing really weird, not wanting to eat, and not being able to move around as much. This isn't his normal behavior. Well, finally it got so bad we had to take him to the hospital. They said he had a silent heartattack. We visited him and he knew who we were but he was still kind of talking crazy. Then, yesterday, (this happened sunday night) he was better. He was sitting up, talking normal, not even once talking crazy, he was eating again, everything looked up. Today he was really bad. He kept trying to get up out of his bed. He was yellin and being really mean. Then he started really talking to himself, having a conversation with my grandma who wasn't even there. It broke my heart.

I was thinking maybe its just that he has to lay around all day? That he's tired and just wants to get up and going like he is used to doing? please if anyone knows anything, please tell me, I'm so scared.

Whenever I hold my hand above my head in any way (not even straight up... I can just be sitting with my hands behind my head) I start to lose blood flow to my hands that I can really feel. This sensation of an absense of circulation forces me to put my hands back down after only a minute or so. This same thing also happens when I'm lying down and my hands are above my head (parallel to the ground). Does this happen to everyone or is it specific to me?

a predicted lifespan after such a surgery? Are there
any long term complications?

were yum,. and I am not even in bed yet, as I will be going to sleep soon, and my heart rate was 50 beats per minute. As soon as I go to bed it will drop to around 46-47 beats per minute. I have had it as low as 44 as I was super fit running 90 minutes and doing track work as I used to be a runner. So what is normal reasitn pulse rate. I know everybody is different as what is normal for me may not be normal for anyone else.

My friends dad had an angiogram (not angiplasty -oops - from previous ques asked) and it indicated clogged arteries and he is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. What I don't understand is, my friend said that when her dad went to the doc he was told that two of his arteries collapsed? I've searched online and I haven't been able to find the connection between collapsed arteries and CABG, only clogged arteries - which have to be more than one and above 70% (otherwise an angioplasty). What I think is that the information may have been delivered wrong, because he was told that if he waited any longer for surgery his condition would worsen so they scheduled immediate surgery. My question is, does collapsed arteries and CABG make sense, and if so what are his chances of a successful surgery considering this information? I believe he is having triple bypass. Stats show that CABG is 95% successful. I am trying my best to support her through gaining more knowledge, any info is helpful.
Thanx!!

I have a patient I take care of as a private duty nurse. She goes to dialysis 3 times a week. The Nurse practitioner in charge of her case has given her a RX of 2300mg of Sodium Bicarbonate daily. This patient is retaining fluid, has kidney failure, and significant high blood pressure. She is on major fluid restriction of only 960cc per day (32 oz). I understand that their may be times that she might have to deal with electrolyte imbalances but why would she need to be on that amount of sodium daily above and over what she already gets in the food she eats. She is also diabetic. I have found deffinate warnings on giving this amount to patients with CHF, Kidney Failure and Hypertension. What would her reasons be for this? I need people who can show medical references to answer please!
