Any suggestions? If it matters, I am dealing with hard water, very mineral-y, and buying ice, purified water, or an ice maker, is not going to happen.
The problem is that my ice shatters and sticks in the tray. I have even cracked a couple trays. I have found this happens more when I freeze on top of ice shards that stuck in the bottom, so I have started with room temperature trays of water. Aside from that, I have no ideas.
My trays are a mishmash collection, a couple old ones that came with a refrigerator, and a few from different dollar stores. Do ice trays have a lifespan? Do they develop a residue that makes them not work anymore?
