Spicy foods do not ruin taste buds, though it has been linked to other diseases and issues.

Diseases such as...stomach ulcers. peptic ulcers. tearing of the esophogus (throat tissues). it is linked with colon cancer and prostate cancer.

Myths of spicy foods include...if you eat them while pregnant, your baby will be born with a full head of hair. clears out the sinus cavities if you have a cold/flu. ruins taste buds. can promote fertility.

Health benefits...peppers (especially jalapeno's) are high in vitamin C (they have 2x's the amount that an orange does).

Spicy Food Taste Buds

Not really. It is more like they make your mouth feel numb. So when you taste other food, they become tasteless. Even sugar won't taste that sweet. Perhaps it is what spicy food does. They make your taste numb so that you will end up eating more spicy stuff to overcome that numb feeling. That is why those who took spicy food can continue to eat more spicy food and finish the whole plate of it. Notice those who eat spicy food are usually on the fatter side? Oops, hope I did not difference anyone. I also eat Spicy food and in order to remove the taste, I eat rice. But spicy food are so tasty, so I ate more. Eventually I grow fats. Want some? lol...

Spicy foods like peppers contain capsacin, a chemical that kills taste buds. Luckily your taste buds are completely replaced about every two weeks. As you age your tounge's ability to replace taste buds decreases. This is why an older person may find a meal to be tasteless while a younger person would find the same meal overpowering.

No... normally hot (heat hot, not chilli hot) foods are the taste buds worst enemy.

Taste buds regenerate very quickly - about every 10 days.
