Yes you should be OK to do that - put it in cold water and it will defrost quicker - you can also do it with other frozen meat.

You can do it that way, but you need to change the water often as the water will quickly become too cold to continue defrosting the chicken all the way to the centre and if you put it in the oven if it's only defrosted on the outside, you may find it's not well cooked on the inside.
Don't leave the chicken outside for too long, it will start developing bacteria.
If you want to go through the trouble, it is a good way of defrosting a chicken, as it gets rid of some of the checimals which the chicken is treated with to keep it fresh. Some meat get dyed as well.
As a rule I always wash meat with running water before I cook it.

Thawing a chicken in cold water is the safe way to defrost it other than thawing in the fridge. Just be sure you keep the water cold, preferably running until it is thawed out and cook right away.
Good Luck!!!

You can run it under room temp water or cool water, but never hot or warm water. And only do this for an hour tops! Then just place in your fridge lowest level you can and wait for it to defrost there.

I do it all the time, in fact, placing the chicken in cold water, adds lots of juice to the meat, especially if you intend to cook the chicken on the grill. This is the method that I use and it was given to me by a chef.
Hope this helps.

Sure, use hot water and place your chicken in a zip locked bag, place the bag in hot water... The water will turn cold soon because of the cold chicken.... Let it sit for a while, then change the water out with new hot water.
I have done this many times and it works just fine..
