I am currently living China and I want to cook some southern traditional American food for my friends. The problem is I don't have an oven and the only type of cooking pan I have is a wok. I would like to cook something like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, etc. Another problem and the reason I am asking here is I don't really know how to cook very well. If I did I am sure I would be able to figure this out. I am not completly hopeless I just need guidance. If you know any recipes online or have suggestions that would be great.

my husband & I have a childbirth class to go to tomorow, and it lasts from 6-8:30. we're supposed to bring out own dinners, and i work until 5:30, so we'll barely have time to grab it & take off to class. What can I make? something that doesn't require utensils or reheating would be great!! (and something healthy! protein needed!! & my husband hates veggies.)

THANKS!!!

I am looking for writers in the food and beverage industry who would like to write about restaurants, events, and food and beverage happenings in their city. It is for a new web site for the industry http://www.foodandbeverageunderground.com . Where would be the best place to get in touch with f&b people in each city?

I received a great diet list which, unfortunatelly contains meat & I don't eat meat (I am a pescetarian - I do eat fish, milk & dairy products).
Does anyone know what can I replace the meat with?

Thanx!

A while ago, an ad campaign ran in the uk for either birds eye or youngs frozen fish. It seemed to prove scientificly that frozen fish was just as nutritious (with vitamins etc) as when it was frozen. It also showed fresh food that wasn't frozen but transported fresh and arrived in a poorer state than the frozen food. I always thought that the perceived wisdom for this was that freezing distroyed the vitamins and such, but this ad changed my view.
Now there is an ad campaign for morrison's which says they would never freeze their fish.
Which is better?
By all means state an uninformed opinion or a gut feeling if you just want 2 points, but I'd prefer a scientific anwer if possible. Thank you

How do you become a master chef? In Australia there are no professional culinary schools like in America, so does that mean i will never be able to outrank an American chef? Or to become a master you have to win competitions?

I've been vegetarian since I was 10 and I've been vegan for about 3 years. I have noticed alot of people I know say they are lactose intolerant or that they have a "bad reaction" to dairy products (these people are not vegan, but average eaters of meat/dairy/etc). I get severe pain in my stomach, bloating, gassiness, nausea, and an overall "yucky" feeling when I consume lactose, even small amounts like in Ibuprofen etc.

So I'm wondering. Does anyone else think it kind of makes sense to not be able to digest lactose after say, 5 years of age?? I mean, we are mammals. Our bodies are designed to thrive on our mother's milk until we self-wean around 3 or 4. After that we have no need of dairy, especially another species'. So it kind of figures that we wouldn't be able to digest it after a certain point.

Does anyone see where I'm coming from? That lactose intolerance is not so much a medical condition ("lactase deficiency") but a dietary condition ("adults don't need milk")?

Is it the eating of meat itself?

Or is it the conditions the animals bred to used as food live in?
