A hangover is the result of your body being dehydrated and filled with toxins (alcohol).

You need to replenish your fluids, by drinking water as well as other non-alcoholic beverages, which will also help to flush the toxins out. Exercise, even moderate, will also speed the metabolizing of the toxins from your system.

A little pain reliever, to soften the discomfort of the hangover, isn't a bad idea, but be careful which ones you use. Some, like ibuprofen, can harm your liver, which is already under stress from your alcoholic binge.

It depends on your age. When I was younger I'd be fine come 1pm, but after I turned 30 hangovers got a lot worse. It's easier to avoid getting a hangover then it is to recover from one.

If you're going out for a session do the following. Have a good meal before hand, if you go drinking on an empty stomach you've no chance. Also if you manage to drink three pints of water you'll help yourself too. And finally, as much as they go well together avoid smoking when drinking. Hangovers are much worse when you've had a lot to smoke and a lot to drink.

If none of this works (and let's be honest good intentions and underwear go out the window when you're on the lash) and you wake up feeling like a team of aggressive dwarves are drilling holes in your skull, I'd recommend the following. Get up and have a bath or a shower, then drink lots, and eat. Don't lie about feeling sorry for yourself, move about. It'll go eventually. The longer I lie in bed with a hangover the worse the headache gets. Food always settles a poorly tummy. Paracetamol gets rid of the headache so you can start to feel more human.

Also full marks to the other poster who suggested lots of sex, it'll take your mind of the aches and pains.

I love reading the different ways of getting rid of a hangover!

For me, I always eat after I am finished drinking - no matter if I am hungry or not (usually I am, so this isn't an issue) - then, I take some Advil and go to bed. The next morning, if I drink a lot of water and take some more Advil, the hangover is usually gone by noon.

Just a thought - this is what works for me!

If you don't want a beast of a hangover after a heavy session, what usuallly works for me is a good meal before drinking, drinking water (or any other non-alocholic bevvie) every 3rd or 4th drink, eat some more when you can and finish the night off with a pint or two of water.
You'll need to go to the toilet during the night (or you'll wet the bed depending on how drunk you are XD) but it'll definitely help your stomach, at least, feel settled in the morning.

Then when you get up, have a light breakfast and take lots of Vitamin C and/or eat plenty of orange or any other fruit that contains Vit C (it aids the liver somehow, I dunno, Wikipedia it :P) and, of course, painkillers if you need them.

If your stomach still feels crappy, drink some Andrews Salts, that always helps my stomach.

Last, but not least, hair of the dog! Another reason for a hangover headache is alcohol withdrawl. I've gone to bed after drinking several beers over a few hours (not enough to get drunk, just merry) and woken up with a nasty headache, even after drinking plenty of fluid so a can of beer or four does wonders! :D

Lastly, and the most boring answer for sobering up and curing a hangover, don't drink. Haha. Ahem. (I've never taken that advice. ;) )

Hangovers are caused by a lack of alcohol clearance (when you still feel drunk the next day) but mainly dehydration. The dehydration comes from the alcohol which is a mild diuretic. This elevation in your urine output would normally increase your thirst and you would drink to over come it- however when you're drinking alcohol on a night out you just drink more beer and the cycle continues. This is why you often wake up with a dry mouth and dark smelly urine

The best hanover cure is to drink plenty of fluids (a pint or two before bed) that doesn't contain caffeine, as caffeine is also a mild diuretic and will dehydrate even you even further (carbonated drinks such as coke, diet coke, and hot drinks like tea and coffee should be avoided)

Electrolyte drinks that people consume when they have diarrhoea are also said to be effective as this is very good way of rehydrating yourself

I dicovered the best hangover cure ever whilst in Turkey. A proper Turkish Bath. I had the mother of all hangovers when I walked into the place, but after the hottest sauna ever, then the body scrub and soap down and finally the massage, I walked out of there feeling 100% sober, alcohol and hangover free. It was amazing, we now just need someone to open some turkish baths here in England. Their weekend hangover trade would be fantastic for them.

Well drinks lots of water...not gassy fluids cause that'll cause a bloated tummy and that is never good! go for a run! doesnt matter how long until you are out of breath and cant take it anymore thatll really get the water running down your face!

Dont shower straight after cause thatll give you a high tempature and coughs etc! Do the following instead!

Eat 3 bowls of any cereal...specialK ...Bran Flakes with cold milk of course drink 2 cups of strong tea that means only two tea spoons of milk..and try Orang Juice 5 glasses after about a couple of hours...no rest or watching TV.

and if your not working freshen up and c ur girlfriend or misses if ya lucky...and have plenty of sex...that means no ejaculating until the foreplay gets boring trust me this will not only get rid of the hangover but will also get you in a much better mood during the process rather than snapping at everyone cause u couldnt handle ur drinks last night!

hi,
i been a serious drinker for the past 17 years or so, and have found that the hangover is better whenever i don't mix my drinks and also when i have the rum with soda water as it rehydrates me at the same time.
The best cure for a hangover is an ice cold beer or if you can't take it, then try a shandy ( beer and sprite/lemonade). that works best because it gives your body the necessary kick required to kickstart your day.
don't laugh but try it and you will agree.

Best way to sober up is to drink a lot of water while inside a steam-bath. it removes the toxins and gets you rehydrated at the same time.

enjoy the piss up!

The best form of defence is a good offence. I am a rugby player and as such have suffered more than my fair share of hangovers.

Alcohol is a diuretic, which essentially means it dehydrates you by making you go to the loo a lot. The problem arises when you pass more water than you drink.

A hangover headache is essentially the brain "shrinking" and pulling on the membrane that protects it and lies between it and the skull. The feeling sick is classic dehydration combined with a little alcohol overdose

Therefore the best thing to do is, when you get home, drink about half in pints of water what you did in beer, or as much as you can manage, and then drink at least a pint of orange juice which helps break down the alcohol in the liver.

When you wake up, drink another pint of water and another pint of orange juice and it should dramatically reduce your hangover or remove it completely.

Well, to sober up, drink non-alcoholic drinks and go for a walk. To prevent a hangover after drinking, 2 paracetamol and about a pint of water before going to bed does the trick for me. Only side effect is needing the toilet every few hours during the night so far. But, as everyone is different, no guarantee it would work for everyone.
