What exactly is it? What does it do, and how does it help people? I'm doing a project for school and information on this would greatly help. If you're wondering, the website is http://response.restoration.noaa.gov/

We've had a problem with mice since 2004. We've caught about 8 since then! However, came downstairs this morning (5.30) and nearly and quite literally nearly had a heart attack. I saw a mouse and it ran behind the cooker! I nearly died. I've got 4 traps down (all with peanut butter in) and poison and they're still roaming around. What more can I do? I don't have a cat, as I've no one to look after one if I ever go away (our neighbours are horrible)

This company in California called Full Circle Energy, Inc. has the technology to turn ANY type waste into energy without emitting carbon dioxide or other pollutants. The energy generated from this technology comes in the form of electricity, ethanol, and fuel for hydrogen vehicles. I just learned that many places in the world, especially the Middle East, derive their drinkable water from a method called desalinization. I guess this has been going on for a while, but apparently the energy cost is astronomic. This new technology will allow for desalinization to be available to countries around the globe.

I am all for the environment and emission controls, but it bothers me when people talk about SUVs like they are have no emission controls. Compared to a 1969 VW hippy van a Tahoe gets about the same mileage and runs 90% cleaner. Plus it has three times the horsepower and is a lot safer (studies found that a collision at 12mph in a VW van can cause fatal injuries). I'm just saying that if you don't know anything about cars you shouldn't talk.

Modern SUVs with PCV valves, Catalytic Converters, EGR valves and computer controlled air fuel ratio feedback are 90% cleaner than an old VW. If you don't know what those systems are then you should not talk about gross polluting SUVs.

That said, what really gets me are the gross polluting big-rigs and ships which spew diesel emissions unchecked. SUVs are taking way to much of the blame for our enviromental woes.

I currently live in Las Vegas.
And like most of the southwest, is it a desert climate.

Lake Mead is the closest source of water out here, and from the news, the lake levels are becoming lower then ever.

Where exactly is all the water coming from to support all these people who are moving out here?
What will happen to all the people if water becomes more precious then gold, oil, and diamonds?

If the water sources run out, what will happen to all these people? What would happen to the local area itself and what will damage will it cause?

If you could think of any other questions on this topic, please let me know.

State your thoughts and opinions of this issue by contributing with intelligent answers. I am doing this study in college involving environmental, social and political science and after attending a debate last Friday about western world practices, changed my perspectives about our culture and believes as Americans.

Best answer may be quoted on the Dartmouth College news paper depending on quality and content.

The category seems to have been taken over by flacks for corporations and flat earth deniers of scientific evidence. It's become almost impossible to have any kind of reasoned discussion here and I've noticed that fewer and fewer people even try. It's so reminiscent of the decades of insistence that cigarettes were good for us, that radiation is healthy, and that pollution is ok because, hey, nature uses chemicals too! Should we just give up and turn it over to the medieval thinkers and agents of corporate greed?
