It has not been a great summer, but it is starting to feel like Autumn is on it's way.

How can I stay warm and still be eco friendly?

Build an outer shell around your house out of wood. Either an air filled gap or insulation fill will hold heat in and cold out.
At the same time, by using wood, you are storing carbon(from CO2) and taking it out of the atmosphere. This carbon is then stored (a carbon sink) for many, many years to come. Much better than allowing those trees to die and fall and decompose thus releasing the carbon back into the air.

You will also allow for planting more trees which will sequester more CO2 from the atmosphere.

The single most important thing you can do? LEARN. Learn what is actually happening in this world -- not treehugger or anti-eco propoganda, but the truth. What's the deal with global warming? What does peak oil mean and when will/did it happen? Does this threaten our lifestyles? Does it threaten our civilization? In 30 years will it make sense to live in a suburban cul-de-sac and drive your car everywhere? What other options are there? This information isn't secret or hidden, most of it's right out there, on Wikipedia in most cases. Get educated, get aware, and get activist. Demand what's needed, and invest in what's right. As you get into the bigger decisions in your life, be eco about *those*. For instance you buy your first house. Will you follow the lemmings and buy a suburban cul-de-sac home that burns more energy than an SUV... and then take short showers? Or will you design an elegant passive solar home, battle with the housing inspectors to let you build it, and take long showers with solar heated water? I like that one, lol! You've got a lot of years ahead of you. If I'm right, things are going to get pretty bad. A lot of people will be in denial or in fear, and there will be a lot of confusion and a lot of lies. The future will depend on a few people making really smart choices and showing everyone else how it can be done. That takes you educating yourself. That's the one thing

Use cardboard and paper for sealing the open gaps.. They are great insulators. Make sure that the temp control is on always and set to 22 deg.C. It conserves energy.
Close the rooms you don't need an seal up the crevices so that warm air is not wasted.

One of the cheapest and easiet things you can do is get some silicone sealant and use it around all windows and doors. Getting double or triple pane windows with a gas like argon inbetween the layers will help too if you can afford the expense.

Do you have a fireplace? If so, fire it up!

Wear alot of sweaters as people have said, uncover south facing windows, cover up north facing windows with heat retaining materials.

If you have the money, you could invest in a solar air heating system. Or a geothermal heat sink system.

Wear natural wool clothing and use wool sweaters.
Wool keeps in body heat, and repels moisture, which makes people colder than dry, cold weather.
