I have seen topic after topic where they say that it is, for instance, a big money scam. I mean, what they are saying is that no action is needed. Then why are they so interested in proclaiming that?

What should the normal temperature and weather patterns be?

How fast should they be changing and in what way?

The Arctic Ice that is said to be melting, should it not melt or be expanding?

How does CO2, that is heavier than most other gasses in the atmosphere, get above other gasses in the atmosphere that are lighter?

My science teacher made us watch it in school today. I do not like Al Gore as a politician nor as a "global activist", and I especially didn't like the clips of the 2000 presidential election (what does THAT even have to do with global warming? Please tell me!). The Simpsons-esque cartoon was entertaining, but other than that I would have preferred not to watch it. To anyone who has seen An Inconvenient Truth, what did you think of it?

Someone please explain to me how is the melting of the polar ice caps going to raise the sea level?

I can't really believe all this hype about the sea level rising 60ft. First off there is not that much ice in the polar regions on this planet and secondly, Ice is less dense than water, and occupied more space than water. So if the ice caps melted, then the sea level should actually lower. Do you see where I'm going with this.

Here's a fun activity you can try at home. Get a glass of water and fill it up with water, and ice. Mark the tip top point of where the ice has reached on the glass, and then let all the ice melt. Chances are the level of water didn't do anything.

You're probably going to say something about, it doesn't change much on a small scale. Well I'm saying it's not going to change much on a large scale. But if someone can explain how the water will raise over 25 feet please explain.

1 - World Sea Levels have not risen in the last 100 years.
2 - Congress refused to act on the looney tune Al Gores Wet Dream Fantasy he Calls Global Warming. Actually Al Gore suffers from Global Intoxication - Al is allergic to the Truth.
3 - The Earth's Atmosphere contains 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1% Carbon Dioxide. This balance has not changed for thousands of years. Therefore, the Carbon Footprint is a joke and if you believe this non sense, then you have just been had by Al Gore. You IDIOTS!
4 - Since Trees and Plants breath in Carbon Dioxide, this gas compound is essential to all life on Earth.
5 - Al Gore has also stated that he invented the internet. Another Lie from being Globally Intoxicated. However, his Democrat Buddy Bill Clinton, did indeed invent Phone SEX!

Or would you just say "Oh well, it's going to hit us anyway, so why bother"? Ok. We all know that the Earth's temperature is rising and is going to cause lots of disasters. So, REGARDLESS of whether this is caused by humans or is just occuring naturally, do you want to at least TRY to do something about it, or just say "Why bother, it's going to happen anyway"?

Global Warming Speech:

Everybody has already heard something about global warming, but honestly: Are we doing enough? No, we’re not. We CAN, we SHOULD and we MUST do much more, because if we don’t we and our future generations are going to suffer the consequences.
We live in a planet that is really fragile, and we cannot expect that it will stay all right after being damaged on daily basis by us. One of the main processes that causes global warming is the greenhouse effect. (show PowerPoint – here is an image explaining the greenhouse effect), as we can see here, the solar radiation pass through the atmosphere, some of it goes back to space, but others stay on Earth (which is good because it keeps our planet warm), but with the global warming happening the ones that are suppose to go back to the Space can’t go, instead they stay in our planet, causing hotter temperatures than normal).
If we put a glass of ice outside in a hot day, of course that it will eventually melt, and the ice turns into water. That is exactly what is happening with our glaciers…Since some glaciers are melting the sea level rising is becoming a real threat. We are facing a big danger: if the West Antarctic ice shelf melts the sea level would raise 20 feet (6 meters), putting in danger places like New York, Florida, San Francisco Bay, the Netherlands and many more. (Show PowerPoint: this is what will happen to the World Trade Center Memorial, in Manhattan. And in Florida, where 15 million people live. And here there is Netherlands, where 16 million people live). If this happens “the maps of the world will have to be redrawn”.
But we are not just facing the rise of sea levels. Many other things CAN and WILL happen to our beautiful planet, such as more hurricanes, droughts, floods, infectious diseases, a possibility of a new ice age, many deaths and of course the rise in temperatures (show PowerPoint: this is how our planet is right now, but if the global warming keeps happening it will turn into this, a completely different image).
If you want to take action there are a lot of things that you can do, for example, don’t leave electronics, (such as computers, televisions, etc.) in standby mode (because even if they are in standby mode they are using energy, when you don’t actually need it); recycle (if you recycle you can save 2400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year, which is a big help for our environment); switch to green energy (green energy is the type of energy that is not going to damage the environment, this energy is made by natural processes, like solar power, wave power and wind power. One of the examples of the green energy things that you can buy are fluorescent lights); don’t use your car so many times (while you are using a car you’re burning fossil fuels, which are extremely dangerous for our environment); try not go by plane (airplanes are responsible for 2 to 3 percent of human CO2 emissions, because they trap energy in Earth's atmosphere); use less hot water (because it takes a lot of energy to heat water); plant more trees (one tree will absorb a ton of carbon dioxin over its lifetime) and spread the word (if a lot of people know about this world crisis it will be much easier to take action, because we will have everybody’s help).
A man called Upton Sinclair wrote: “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it”. This is why the politicians don’t do anything about it; but what do you prefer: Money or our planet Earth? It is not hard to choose, because without our planet we cannot have money. Why are we still ignoring this when we have so much proof that this is real? For example: the Lake Chad: in 1963 it was a beautiful big lake in Africa, but now it doesn’t exist. The Ward Hunt ice shelf in Canada has broken apart. 2005 was the hottest year ever and the hurricanes have become bigger and more: some examples are the hurricane Katrina (in New Orleans, Louisiana) and the hurricane Rita (in Los Angeles, California). We cannot say: “I am only one person, I am not going to change the world by doing this” If you say this, or think this way you are doing the wrong thing, because if we all help, a personal level will turn into a national level and then a global level. We know what to do, how to do it and we have everything that we need. If we are enough smart to create things like computers we are enough smart to solve this, we are only missing will.
We can do two things about the global warming: spending all day long not caring about the problem, while millions of innocents die, and putting yourself in risk or do something about it and change our world. It is your decision…

Can someone help with this MATH.... PROBLEM... with Global Warming?

Global Warming MEANS "World Wide Warming!" It is ONLY A Political Term = NOT based in Real Science!

The EARTH is covered by "Three Quarters WATER!" Basic Science, it takes ONE-Btu to raise One Cubic Centimeter ONE Degree Centigrade!

HOW many "Gazillion Cubic Centimeters are there ONLY on the Surface of Planet Earth COVERED by 3/4 Water?"

HOW many Btu's would it take TO RAISE THE SURFACE TEMPERATURE ONE DEGREE?

DO THE MATH!

And, were are the Million TEMPERATURE MEASURING SITES on the Many Oceans THAT TELL US THAT THE OCEAN TEMPERATURES ARE RISING? Not!

Oh yes, POLAR temperatures have varied LESS Than one degree in the past 100-Years. Noticed I said VARIED, = NOT RISEN!

Thanks, RR

Having read Six Degrees by Mark Lynas, I outline the thesis and ask if you think his target is achieveable.

Mr Lynas details scientific knowledge about what will happen with each degree of warming. He details the tipping points which will exacerbate the influence of man-made emissions.

At 2 to 3 degs carbon cycle absorption mechanisms will fail worldwide.

At 3 to 4 degs Siberian permafrost will thaw and release vast amounts of methane.

At 4 to 5 degs methane hydrates will begin to melt and release even more methane.

Each mechanism adds a degree or more to warming predictions. The cascade starts at just 2 degs. Go over that and the earth will get 6 degs warmer in a matter of decades, wiping out 95% of life on the planet with no chance of stopping it.

The conclusion is that we must stay below 2deg warmer, which equates to around 400ppm CO2. We are currently at 382ppm.

To avoid this we must:
Stop emissions growth by 2015
Cut emissions by 60% by 2030
Cut them by 90% by 2050

According to environmentalists the evidence for man made global warming is so great that the only people who appose it are in the pockets of big oil. For arguments sake lets accept the fact that these people are being paid by oil companies. But to believe the above statement is to believe that thousands of scientists do not care about humanity, the lives of their children, grandchildren, and in many ways would be an acompliss to mass murder of hundreds of millions and according to some billions of lives by purposely misleading the public and not taking actions to correct the problem. But yet can still go to sleep without a guilty conscious. So how much money are they receiving?
