Over its lifetime a tree can absorb a ton of carbon dioxin. So, yes it helps. But don't forget that there are also another things that you should do: like switch to green energy, don't go by plane so many times, don't use your car so often, don't let electronics in standby mode and recycle.

Instead of each family planting trees (which has very little effect) why not have 3 or 4 families living in each home, 1 family per room. Think of all the fuel that could be saved from heating alone.
Meals cooked for 12 is much more energy efficient than 3 meals cooked for 3 families.
Group bathing would save a bundle on water and make it easier to scrub each others backs.

that is my fantasy ,if everybody in the world did this we would change the world ,urbanisation should include much more trees especially fruit trees
this would have a huge impact on climate, rain , general temperatures ,humidity,
take some pressure of farmers by putting uch more fruit into cirulation .a fantastic amount more of carbon absorbsion
make the world more beautifull ,and a lot more comfortable
I call it return to Babylon
a global garden culture
it also means a lot more work for those living under the trees ,the maintenance of the growth ,cleaning branches ,putting the leaves together to mulch the trees ,harvesting the fruits ,etc ,
but it would be worth it in terms of what we would gain ,
there would be a heck of a lot more birds around and squirrels etc.
if it would kill Global warming i dont know ,i dont think we are the only ones that are causing it,
but to say we have no controll on what happens to climate is wrong ,
irresponsible farming using chemicals and over grazing as well as over pumping aquifers has created a lot of desserts on this planet and that certainly has a big effect on the overall climate ,
the sahara is growing by 6 miles a year ,its edges are burning the vegetation in front
the Sahara originally was forrest ,which was deforrested by Humans ,(one cannot deforrest in the tropics ,for new growth to fight the sun is not posible )
Spain was deforested by the building of ther Spanish Armada ,and it certainly changed the climate in Spain
Lebanon was deforested by the Phoenicians trade fleet and it is now a dessert country and very hot
Ghengas kahn turned whole countries into desserts ,changing the climate ,by burning all forests and filling the wells with sand
and today modern agriculture and slash and burn methods have caused wide spread desertification
changing the climate ,
in Northern China 900 vilages are buried under the dust ,2 mayor desserts are merging and the people have evacuated the Area because they coiuld not breathe anymore
and the similar things are happening all over ,and that certainly effects the lives climatically of the people who are close by as well as far away ,because there are less forrests to produce rain clouds .
so never say that we Humans are not affecting our Environment ,we have been doing nothing else
just the Global road systems have claimed trillions of trees
not even talking about airpolution, this also has its effects

NO........WRONG.....................You have no control over "Mother Earth". SHE will deal with you. Your influence Is more miniscule than you can believe. Earth warms Earth cools. You can't change that! Just count the ice ages. The only constant thing in this earth's climate is CHANGE. Guess what? We're long overdue for a change of the magnetic poles too. Now freak out about that! Everything elelctrcal will quit. I hope I didn't scare ya.............Preach doom and disaster all You wish.....It's the normal state of affairs on "Mother Earth". I can't belive you are surprised about global disasters. They happened long before "Man" walked this earth. They will continue to happen whatever "Man" tries to do about them. You are NOT in control. You and Al Gore never were in control. And you never will be in control. The planet goes thru cycles of weather and continental drift. It's not history........It's happening today. You better find a way to live with it. It gonna happen! Trees you plant will probably die in your lifetime. You had better hope they provide some heat when you burn them.

Yes!!
I believe it can.
If every single person plants a tree near their house and takes good care of it, global warming will definitely reduce.
But this attempt may not work if people are not consious by themselves.
If along with planting trees people be more environment friendly, like cycling to the nearby store, Mother Earth maybe healthy and green again!!

definitely. i feel there are 2 answers to ure qsn.
first, scientifically, if every family plant a tree, considering that the tree takes 2 years to produce a fair amount of leaves for photosynthesis, then within 2 years, billions of new trees can significantly help lower the earth's temperature.
Second, if you analyse the psychology of the family members who plant trees, wouldnt they be more aware of the environmental issue at hand? If so, wouldnt they do more (in other pro-environmental areas) to conserve our environment?
If every family can plant a tree, would they actions spurrs others to follow suit?
Woulnt their one simple action solve the manpower and financial obstacles when educating the younger generation about environmental conservation?
When their use their action to validate their importance for environment, havent they already become (in a way or another) a much better person in life? When all our morality and character improve, wouldnt we be more likely to consider our every action and thoughts? In that case, wouldnt our society improve as a whole?
In the end... i think not only can we combat environmental issues, many other unsolved and pressing concerns can be corrected when our heart becomes brighter and purer.
Thats my take.

All emissions could stop right now and global warming would continue for at least the next 50 plus years before the atmosphere would change enough to reverse the effects. The problem is that there is a tipping point somewhere that will effect life on earth irrevocably and noone knows where that is.

Probably not,
Trees are not the answer, they actually don't create that much oxygen anyway. Prairie lands and grass give off much more oxygen than trees.
What people need to do it make their lifestyles more efficient. For instance:
1: if every person would change 1 incandescent light to compact florescent, it would be like removing over 6 million SUV's off of the road.
2: Sealing your home to reduce air leaks... it saves you money and saves the planet.
3: reduce all of those phantom electrical loads in your home.
4: use more efficient water heating system
5: use alternative energy
there are so many things you can do, and with all of the tax breaks and incentives, they all are now cost effective and you can cut your monthly energy cost down too.
hope that helps,
Adam

That's as good or better idea than algory's ever had. You will get two things~~you will think you are doing good for the evowhatever, and you will be doing good despite what you think.
I would suggest a good, fast growing shade tree grove for cooling off in the summer when we get real close to the sun.

No. Al Gore's web site says one tree absorbs one ton of carbon dioxide over its life. What it doesn't say is how long that life is. I think it is safe to say all trees live 100 years or more. That would mean it absorbed only 20 pounds of CO2 a year, or less. That isn't much. A car emits more than that on one tank of gas.
