Specifically, I am wondering if a recirculating whole-house water pump, which keeps hot(ish) water circulating through the pipes makes sense. Currently, it takes literally one full minute (OK, 57 seconds in my test today) for hot water to reach the sink in our upstairs bathroom from the water heater tank in the basement. A recirculating pump would reduce that time to zero and save a lot of wasted water (not to mention getting my kiddos to wash those germies with warm water), but it would waste some energy heating the water in the pipes (which cannot be insulated as well as a tank) and moving it around. Do the water savings justify the increased energy use?

Since ethanol is so environmentally destructive compared to gasoline, will you be boycotting it?

To produce ethanol we must clear grassland or forests, plow the land, divert water to irrigate it, spray it with herbacides and insecticides and process the harvest. Is it worth that much environmental destruction when we can simply drill for oil or mine coal?

seems like global warming comes from burning carbon that is no longer in the "biosphere". So for true carbon neutrality, should we consider heating with wood?

The International Whaling Commission will meet in Anchorage, Alaska, at the end of May, and everything hangs in the balance. The pro-whaling nations of Japan, Iceland, and Norway are on the verge of winning the majority of votes, which could lead to commercial whaling being reopened for the first time in 20 years.

How could you have gone to Syria Ms. Pelosi - do you have a screw loose or what? You are an embarassment to this country and to the Senate. You have done just what Jane Fonda did during Viet Nam. Is your hatred of Bush so all consuming that you had to humiliate our entire country with your antics. I have absolutely no respect for you or your opinions. And I don't know anyone else who does either. This is the pulse of our country - middle America - when you don't agree with our Administration, you don't make a fool of yourself to the world. Do you really think the Syrians respected what you did. They don't act like Baboons when they err. I still can't believe you did such a stupid thing. Syria is our enemy - duh!
I don't believe there is anything you could say or do that would repair the damage you have done. It is pretty sorry when the 3rd person in line for the Presidency doesn't have any good sense. I hope very much you don't serve another term in the Senate.

I read an article in a local paper about an inventor in Wi that is working on an electric vehicle powered by bumps in the road or suspension travel---I imagine it's a system that uses the up and down motion of the shocks to energize a magnetic field and generate electricty to charge the batteries. Sounds simple and is simliar to regenerative braking in that the energy used to stop a car is put back in to moving the car. Article is here:

Since America is the land of inventors, I was wondering if there's anyone else looking into available ways to power a car other than hybrid, diesel, hydrogen, photovoltaic, etc...how creative are people getting with the price of gas now.

I saw a video about how every-day people are converting their cars to use alternative fuels.. there is a class at Santa Rose Jr College

It seems logical to me that if alot of people would convert the car they already have to an alternative fuel (of thier own choosing) then there would be >1< a substantial savings in fuels economy (some of these cars are getting 90 miles to the gallon of the fuel being used) >2< a long-term savings in fuel cost to the car-owner who made the switch >3< a serious depletion in the demand on fossil fuels >4< a rapid reduction in emissions

So.. why aren't there more classes to teach people how to make these changes to their own cars?... and is there a book or something for those that aren't able to attend that class (as in don't live anywhere near that area)

Suppose gas prices were 7dollars per gallon in the US. Most people would probably drive less and less people would be bulky vehicles like SUVs. Is it a good idea to increase gas prices? Obviously people at the lower end of the economy like me would be effected more greatly than people on the higher end.
