spread awareness and explain to people that, despite the hype of exaggerated points of view, climate shift will happen within the next century or two

If you are in a school - it suggests you might have plenty of books to read already - which could be boring - so, I shouldnt ask you to read books.

1) So, you can undertake some practical work - like planting trees/ flowers in your own backyard or pots - then give them the best care.

2) Next time when you goto store - buy a 18 watt or 23 watt Compact Flourescent Lamp for your home and replace the old ordinary globe bulb - you will save 80% of bills. If you can buy it out from your pocket money - that will be best - that way you can show your friends/teachers how important the global warming is.

3) Never leave your computer on - when you aren't using it.

4) Never use water more than you need.

5) if you someone littering your neighbourhood - forbid them doing so in a very humble manner or as a request

6) Try using less air-conditioning this season

But if you like reading books - search internet for global warming and its causes - read more and more articles and take part in discussion like this yahoo answers forum

if you have successfuly done the above things - you have already started contributing in slowing down global warming

You may not be able to do everything, but you can do something! You have already taken the first step in trying to learn more about the problem. Someone your age has a vested interest in making sure that everything that can be done, will be done, in order to keep the world habitable. In general, you should try to reduce the "things" in your life. Every product you buy in a store has a bigger cost than just the money you pay. It costs energy and resources to make, package, and get it to the store. So always ask yourself if you really need a product . . . do you need another lip gloss? Do you need a plastic keychain shaped like Nemo? Do you need a new (fill-in-the-blank) or can you get more use out of the one(s) you already have? Of course you need groceries, but do you need the ones that you just need to heat, or can you learn to cook so you can buy your food in a fresher, more natural state? Spaghetti sauce is just tomatoes and herbs. Salad dressing is basically oil, vinegar, water and spices, and you can mix them up easily! This makes a big difference in the flavor, as well as in energy consumption for packaging material that then needs to get to the landfill somehow. Good luck, and don't be discouraged. The Earth is worth your best efforts, even if some people have given up hope. Some of us old fogies are counting on young people like you to take our places when you grow up, so I want you to know you are appreciated!

Plant trees---they produce oxygen which will help negate the effects of pollution. But global warming is not really something we can do much about and is probably a natural occuring process that it is time to go through. Many centuries ago, the Vikings had colonies of settlers in Greenland (it's in your history books)...it was warm and grassy and was a good place to live---over time the weather grew colder and people had to abandon it....now it's covered in ice because of a little ice age the northern hemisphere went through. Well, now people see the ice melting and retreating and think the global warming is a bad thing caused by modern pollution problems but the global weather is really gradually reverting to what the climate was like before, many centuries ago. They did not have cars and factories and power plants back then, so it could not be that their weather was too warm for any man-made reason. Scientists can't seem to agree on what the causes are because one volcano like Mount St. Helens can emit more emissions in one event than the whole state does in a whole year and look how many active volcanoes there are on the planet. And there are too many variables to consider on what plays a part in warming and how much of a part---the earth's recent past history is a valuable clue that the climate was warmer and not so long ago...hundreds of years maybe but not thousands. Some top scientists are looking into nautical records of the past to look for clues on how far down sea ice came in sailing passages in the northern parts of the oceans to determine when the ice age started and what weather conditions were like before that.
It's good for you to be concerned and willing to do what you can to help....Good luck, Paul

Sweetie,

You are very young and you are going to be exposed to a bunch of rubbish throughout your life. Do yourself a favor and always research both sides of an issue before letting yourself be convinced right away. Many very serious scientists are calling man made Global Warming outrageous.
Check out this link
http://www.canadafreepress.com/2007/cover020707.htm
Climatologist Timothy Ball sends PhD to Canada Free Press
Also research Claude Allegre Global Warming defector, here is a link but there is much more to be read.
http://www.midasoracle.org/2007/04/17/claude-allegre-al-gore-debunker/
Also be careful of those who would demonize the skeptics but saying they are bought and paid for. Ask who is paying the other side.

Note also that Leo DiCaprio might be cute but he is no rocket scientist.

I'm like 15 and it's hard not to feel helpless in the fight against global warming because it's such a big promblem and your only one person. Get your friends on board and raise money for reasearch or energy efficient lightbulbs to give out. Try to take shorter showers and walk more. Good Luck!

The first thing to do is understand what global warming is. It may be an absolutly normal climate change.
In the midievel times there was a severe global warming and there was no way to blame it on humans.
We are having a hard time even defining that global warming is really happening, much less that it is being caused by humans.

Plant trees, recycle, unplug appliances that you don't use or never plan on using, ride a bike to work or school and walk to places instead of using transportations since vehicles smog up the ozone layer and that leads to global warming.

Here in Mexico many school kids your age form a group and go clean a piece of the river side.

The best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods

Organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio
Have citizan meetings
Get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,

If you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,

We have done a lot of comunity cleaning and if you dont leave alternatives or try to work on peoples guilt feelings (some people actually have those ,but not many)
than your efforts are a waste of time.

That is what we do in Mexico

POSITIVE ACTIONS
Print Tshirts with slogans ,hang posters all over the place (with recycled paper if possible)

Classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash

70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .
And it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground

And it is the easiest to take care of
o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid

If you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,dead bodies ,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell
the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull blck soil for the garden of flower pots .

If you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,

Add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist

This rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full
-----------------------------...
global warming cannot be stopped but we can stop helping it becoming faster, and being friendlier to out Environment cannot be bad

If you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes

Reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

The capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

The world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

The protection of existing forrests.

Stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

Education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

Education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´population

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

More environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

More dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

Alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

Recicling wastes,limit water use

Here are a 100 more ways

You can be a voice. The little things matter. Have your parents buy you a reusable lunch box such as the "To-Go" box.

http://www.to-goware.com/

Rather than plastic zip baggies which get thrown away and leech toxins into your food, use the "wrap-n-mat"

http://www.wrap-n-mat.com/

Find small fun suggestions to share with friends at school. Reduce waste and recycle.

Start a waste free lunch campaign at your school

things all of us can do.
dont have your purchases put into plastic bags, (big use of oil products to make) use a canvas bag, or paper,
walk when and where ever you can...it helps with the obesity epidemic also.
only use appliances, lights etc when you need to
hang your moms laundry on the line for her..like sheets and towels..not panties, and save a load going in the dryer.
you also will sleep better with the sweet smell of line dried sheets
reuse/recycle/reclaim everything you can
join freecycle.org to get rid of still useful items..or get still useful items, one persons junk is anothers treasure.
and dont let anyone discourage you doing what is right.
