The UN report on Global Warming concluded by saying no matter what we do or don't do, it going to be around for at least "a millenia", so aren't things like walking 20 miles round trip to work, eating organic food and creating "awareness" just meaningless symbolic gestures which do nothing more than make us Politically Correct?

i just finished watching the day after tomorrow and had this crazy idea. What if there was civilization before this one what if this civilization was just like this one industrialized. The co2 built up and a huge storm changed earth the southern hemisphere was the developed part of the world now its the developing as most of the people died and the northern hemisphere survived because there was less co2 in their atmosphere

as a solution for some arid areas ?
1. Some coastal areas only get rain in the strip that is infront of a mountain chain , while the area in the shadow of the mountain does not get any rain . What if the existing mountain was levelled , then an artificial mound of debris as high as the original mountain is constructed , but this time it is some tens of kilometers MORE INLAND , could this ensure more rain to a larger coastal area ?
2 . If a LARGE body of water is created artificially BEHIND said mountains , could that lead to rainfall in the previously ARID area in the MOUNTAIN-SHADOW ?
