I like Bond, Apocolyptica and Rasputina. If I like these, are there others I should know about? Thanks!

Stuff that isn't heard of as much.. really hard, insane stuff or even any of these bands that have cover cds..and no, Rise Against and Godsmack is not hardcore!!
Bands other than
Bleeding Through
All Shall Perish
As Blood Runs Black
Job For a Cowboy
Despised Icon
Through the Eyes of the Dead
Animosity
Bury Your Dead
Lamb of God
Terror
First Blood
Unearth
The Taste of Blood
August Burns Red
Aborted
See You Next Tuesday
Psyopus
The Red Chord
The Acacia Strain
Amon Amarth
Goatwhore

I love these bands, but I want something different, beyond hard, beyond insane, or just exceptionally good

All I can think of right now is all the Zeps that were inspired or made allusions to Lord of the Rings and Pink Floyd's Animals being based on Orwell's Animal Farm. I know there is a Rush inspired by LotR but I can't seem to remember at the moment.

I know there's more!

What are some songs/albums that you enjoy that were inspired by books?

I was watching an /old/ episode of Jerry Springer on youtube [when it was actually a serious show] and it was the show that GG Allin appeared on, but that's not relevent.

A attorney or barristor that was on the show mentioned that he was involved in a case where two young males had killed themselves after listening to a song that told them to do so by Judas Priest =s.

Music is obviously influencial, and for some people it's their personal reality or their escape from reality.
Have you had an experience where a song influenced you to do something?
Perhaps not as extreme as my example - but something worth taking notice of.

A song didn't really influence me, but confirmed my feelings on where a relationship was going. I ended up breaking up with my partner after listening to the song on repeat for about 2 hours straight.

You?

Inspired by rukrym's previous question. I might have asked this already... did I? Oh well.

I've discovered many, many bands here, so which ones have you discovered?

It happens to me every now and then, and usually it's because there are certain aspects of the music I like, and others that I don't, and I can't which wins out.

Two examples are the bands A Fire Inside and Dark Room Notes. Here they are if you don't know them:

AFI - "Love Like winter"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sevmkc0iLkU
DRN - "Love Like Nicotine" & "Shake My Ceiling"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT2f7H4CG5E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xy2PZrrNRo

So, does this ever happen to you?

And that's overall, not just today or any specific time period.

Just wondering what you think...

Guess this is akin to 'guilty pleasures' in a way.

Though I'm always one of the 1st here to throw in my 2 cents when people call bands like Green Day or Blink 182 "punk", I have to admit to actually liking a handful of tunes by certain acts.

I remember back around '94 or so when Green Day 1st hit it big, I *really* liked "When I Come Around". (though this was before people started calling them punk) Thought it was a great blend of a punk *inspired* sound & listener-friendly pop.

To my ears, they actually wrote a few tunes that had real balls. "Geek Stink Breath" is a damn good rocker.
"Warning" is one catchy as hell tune, though it's nearly note for note to The Kinks' "Picture Book". (go listen to em back to back & you'll see!)

A couple of summers back, I liked Good Charlotte's "Boys & Girls". THAT song, to me, had the Beach Boys written All over it. Just louder & more revved up.

Think of more as they come to me.

What're some of yours?

if you know the artist please dont answer it and then put the artist name. its sort of an experiment:

1.)A light to burn all the empires
So bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
In love with all of these vampires
So you can leave like the sane abandoned me

2.)And if they get me and the sun goes down into the ground
And if they get me take this spike to my heart and
And if they get me and the sun goes down
And if they get me take this spike and
You put the spike in my heart

3.)So give me all your poison
And give me all your pills
And give me all your hopeless hearts
And make me ill
You're running after something
That you'll never kill
If this is what you want
Then fire at will

4.)t was the roar of the crowd
That gave me heartache to sing.
It was a lie when they smiled
And said, "you won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops
We laughed so hard it would sting

I've got quite a few, most recently:

"Slanted and Enchanted" by Pavement
"A Crow Left to the Murder" by Incubus
Jurassic 5's EP
"Stories from the City..." by PJ Harvey

So thanks all for the recommendations :)

In 1994 the FCC began awarding licenses via auction, rather than "best public use" policy

In 1996 a 40-station nationwide ownership cap was erased

"In 2003, the FCC Media Bureau produced a draft report analyzing the impact of deregulation in the radio industry. The report stated that from March 1996 through March 2003, the number of commercial radio stations on the air rose 5.9 percent while the number of station owners fell 35 percent."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fcc

I'd personally like to see Congress require the FCC to break up the commercial FM monopoly and require that a higher percentage of FM frequencies be available for local, noncommercial, nonreligious, HIGH POWER licensees. Many of the commercial stations now are completely automated, so it's not gonna hurt the Clear Channels of the nation to give up some frequencies, particularly if they were given a 2 year period to realign their operations or such.

really call that a "reunion tour" with a straight face?

Or does your band have to have been formed before a certain year before you and your fans can use that term with credibility? Can ANY boy band use the term?
