whether or not he is technically better is debatable, but Brian plays much better songs.
And he has a PhD in Astrophysics.

Personally i think may is probley the better guitarist(isn't like knopfler not kick ***, I just think may is better) but i feel Knopfler is better songwriter of the two. May though has wrote some of the most memorable songs of all time. Damn i wish i wrote them, some are played at sporting events every night in America(he still gotta be making bank off them!). Out of the two id choose Knopfler hands down, has better song catalog in my opinion and has probley one of the most recognizable voices in rock.

Mark Knopfler for me, Dire Straits were so good, Marks guitar and lyrics, what can you say they are all classics!!!

I little unfair. 2 VERY different styles. Both fantastic players. People who're into more subtle finesse playing will prefer Mark. People who want sophisticated headbanging will like Brian.
