It's close with me. I'm a huge fan of George Lynch (former member of Dokken) and can't get enough of his lead guitar.

The lead guitarist of Firehouse is underrated, but pretty damn good also.

Thanks in advance for all your answers, and I hope you all have a Happy Holiday! :)

The amount of experience is not important. You could be a beginner or quite talented.

Music is definitely a participatory activity!!!

I like to play the keyboards.

Happy Tuesday! :) I'm officially starting my Christmas shopping today (UGH), so I have lists on the brain...

I think I will leave this question open-ended too...what would you like as your music-related gift this year? And this could be in terms of your favorite bands, the music world in general, or maybe something right here in R&P...it's up to you!

Elvis Presley or Robert Johnson?
For anyone Who doesn't know Robert Johnson was the 1930's delta blueman of "Crossroads" fame whose recordings are basically the template upon which all rock was built.
And Elvis, well everybody knows Elvis.
Which of these two cornerstone figures do You think casts a longer shadow of Rock Music?

what rock band from that era has been most often forgotten as a great band or more specifically, perhaps underrated for their work...the first name that's popping into my head is lynyrd skynyrd, their fame is tied to sweet home alabama despite it not being their best song and certainly not their only good song, it's overplayed because you can use it in any reference to the american south...you guys can probably come up with more names that i'm forgetting, so i'll leave the question to you

[He sang] his compositions in three or four octaves that made you want to drive your car over a cliff. He sang like a professional criminal. … His voice could jar a corpse, always leave you muttering to yourself something like, 'Man, I don't believe it'. His songs had songs within songs. was deadly serious–no pollywog and no fledgling juvenile. There wasn't anything else on the radio like him".

And then I've heard it used for bands like Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs.
Confused?

Many, many awesome indie bands come and go. Their first album is creative, resonates, is original, and can be loved over and over again.

Now this isn't a case of "sophmore slump," but has the same ingredients.

Bands like The Vines, The Stills, Elefant, VHS or Beta, Ambulance LTD, The Futureheads, The Strokes, Architecture in Helsinki, Aqueduct, Hanalei, Snow Patrol, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Stellastarr* are all examples where the second album was not nearly as good and didn't live up to the hype.

Tell me why without giving me some "sophmore slump" cop-out answer.

Image that the Beatles are a band of today, meaning that they no longer existed in the 60s but instead were formed a couple of months ago and are trying to make it big.
Looking at the music we have today, do you think they would be able to reach the fame we all know they had, or would they be pushed aside because they don't have the right look or sound to become popular in our time?
