I don't want anything from outside of America, and please don't list the recently made bands of today, just plain 'classic' rock like ozzy cept he's from the UK but you get my point.

I dunno if anyone else noticed how they mention it and diss it in alot of they're songs. like Prison Song,Lost in Hollywood,Old School Hollywood, Toxicity...and they had the Hollywood sight but it said they're name instead as their album cover for Toxicity and showed the the side walks with the stars in the beinning of that video, I can defanatly see why one will begrudge Hollywood basically, I'm just curious WHAT is it with THEM and Hollywood. I do know Darren is from there and the rest from the middle east, I dunno if that has alot to do with it, does anyone know why or has an opinion why?

In My Top 5 Bands question a few days ago I got a lot of responces suggesting that The Who were a better and more influential band than Led Zeppelin..
I say No Way Not Happening
I like respect and admire The Who but Led Zeppelin, like The Beatles are surely in a class by themselves
You want reasons?
1 Zep's members are better individual musicians
2 Zeppelin's music is much much more stylistically wide ranging, diverse and virtoisic that the Who's is
3 Led Zeppelin had many many more imitators and followers than The Who did
Zeppelin is, I believe, clearly superior any way you spin it.
But I do enjoy a good debate

No question about it, Rock music underwent a drastic change in 1967
The old poppy 3 minute sound of the previous decade and a half vanished under a torrent of every new sound and texture imagineable
Who do You think were the innovators and architects of this change? and why?
My example would be Pink Floyd and their debut album "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" inventeninga new genreby themselves Space-Rock and sowing the seeds of it with songs like "Astronomy Domine". A style which would have many adepts and followers in the 70's ranging from BOC to Hawkwind to Yes to Rush

They could make a billion dollars. The thought must've crossed his mind. I mean, they'd sell out stadiums all over the place.

For most of us, there is a very clear, very distinct separation of these two classifications. That said, a valid argument could be made for both, in the case of Journey. They are one of the few artists in which you COULD make an argument either way. Your thoughts?

The piano is not the usual choice for rockers, but a few have pulled it off perfectly. Of these talented musicians, which one uses the piano best in the rock/pop genre?

In no particular order:

Alicia Keys
Elton John
Tori Amos
Fiona Apple
Billy Joel
Ben Folds

Any write-in suggestions would be appreciated, as I'm sure I've missed some. But please, I'm looking for solo-artists, not bands.

I've always wondered why the greatest of rock n roll (mainly 60s-70s) came from the British.

Bands like Cream, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, AC/DC (wouldnt call them aussie cuz theyre technically Scottish), Black Sabbath, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Beatles, The Who, Queen, Deep Purple, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, The Clash, The Police, etc.

How did they do it? How come the American bands weren't as successful after the 50s? Why didn't other European countries become as successful? ie the French

We often talk about great guitar riffs, but some of the greatest songs in history have had very distinctive bass lines. I thought of a few instantly, when I thought of this question...

The Beatles - "Come Together"
The Rolling Stones - "Emotional Rescue"
Megadeth - "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?"

What are some others?

Happy Wednesday! :)

There seems to be a trend that's ramping up here in R&P lately and it's a rather obnoxious one. I really wish I could link to the question that was posted here recently, but it has been either removed or deleted. Anyway, it was from a Fall Out Boy fan who asked what seemed to be a harmless question about musical preferences and her love of the band, but they put all sorts of stuff, including threats, in the Additional Details with words like "rotting corpse" and "maggots". It would be one thing if it was the first time I had seen something like this, but the threatening posts are becoming much more of a fixture here.

As a teenage fan I can remember really liking the bands I did and, at the most, having little crushes. But to threaten someone who didn't like them...that wasn't me, and it didn't seem to be most teenagers in general.

What do you think is going on here? Are the bands inspiring this type of mania or is it solely the actions of the listener?

I have been watching this show on VH1-Classic. I.m not sure if it is new or old, but it is interesting. The 2nd episode is already covering the Art-Rock of 70s; so, I can only imagine how much they will dedicate to the 90s-current.

QUESTION: For those of you watching (or are familiar with this 7-part series) -- Do you think they are being THOROUGH enough to do justice to Rock's musical history?

NOTE: While there is a lot of extra footage, it still seems that they can do so much more with this subject, like 14-20 hours, or whatever....

I appreciate ANY feedback - Fab
