There are few Black people in rock, metal, etc. but there are some. I recently saw the drummer or whoever in Plain white T's is Black. Also, DMB (sometimes referred to as pop/rock or alternative) has a few black band members. Not that it makes a bit of difference to me. I think it's just a cultural thing. I definetly grew up feeling "out of place" b/c I listen to more emo, rock, alt, music than rap and hip hop...I imagine that is how many others felt growing up too, which is why they may not join those types of bands. Just a thought!

Among all of these good bands there are very few black people on this genre of music but the 3 big names i can think of are:
God Forbid - an all black metal band
Killswitch Engage - The lead singer is black
Living Colour - I do believe they were all black?

theres very few for some reason i don't know why but the ones there are are very good. I guess its more of just a cultural thing most african americans don't get into that style of music. Which is sad considering Jimi was a huge influence on all of rock and should be an influence on their culture to want to expand into rock/metal.

Yo. Black people are around albeit they are often just as marginalized in punk/metal communities as the rest of the world. I'm not going to tokenize the People Of Color that I know are in bands but I will refer you to a film called "Afropunk" that documents Black folk in punk, and what their experiences are (for better and worse) in the scene. And it sheds a little history on POC in the punk movement at large. You should be able to Netflik it. I screened it about 4 years ago in Denver and will likely do so again sometime this year... It's an awesome film, lots of knowledge there...

The drummer from Plain White T's is awesome. Also Disashi from Gym Class Heroes...who aren't really a "rock" band so much, but he is an awesome guitarist.

You just need to look around man. There are good bands with African-American as members.

Hirax - Pioneer thrash metal band
Jimi Hendrix - Guitar God
Living Colour - All African-American hard rock band
Sepultura - Derrick Green replace Max Cavalera as vocalist

etc...

I guess no one remembers Mother's Finest. They even parodied the idea with a song on their "Another Mother Further" album called "Niggizz Can't Sang Rock 'n' Roll"

Got it! Want it?
