I saw a movie years ago that was released in the late 80s or early 90s. At the beginning, friends were out late and confronted in a big city's alley. One had his throat slit and thought dead. Years later, the protagonist discovers that his friend did not die. The one who had been injured seeks revenge against the protagonist. This is about all I can remember, and it's really bothering me that I don't recall the name or actors. Can anyone help?

also why do people like the Dune Trilogy, X-men, Spider Man, Chronicles of Narnia, Chronicles of Riddick, Harry Potter and Bridge to Tarabithia. What makes these movies so special and popular?

If so,I hope it's better than the previous movies....I'm a fan of the Mk series(video games)and I don't know if other fans feel the same way but I'm very disappointed by the movies.And I've been waiting for a movie that live up to the game success.

I don't remember when I saw this, but I know it had to be in the late 70's to mid 80's. We either saw it on the first version of disc (the ones you had to flip mid way through the movie) or on VHS...Anyway, here are the details I remember...

A young girl and her parents are in a foreign country with jungles and rivers. Her parents are murdered and she is taken in by a tribe. She believes that people of a tribe have killed her parents because I think they were killed with blow darts while on a boat or something. During the movie, she is given to one of the tribesmen for a wife and she discovers that her parent's friends had murdered them and she takes revenge. I think it was supposed to be based on a true story and at the end of the movie, the actual girl was shown being led into prison in handcuffs. One major detail I remember about the movie is, the women of the village discover she is a virgin and they use something to break her hymen before her marriage.

I found it to be SO sad, and I usually can laugh at dysfunction and dark humor like no tomorrow - but this was deeply disturbing, especially having it center around a young girl.

Of course, some of it was funny and shows the strength and determination of a family, but it was really sickening how they treated "Grandpa's" body, and those girls at the end (I realize it is a mockery of beauty pageants, but that was just disturbing)!

Anyone else agree?

Everyone says it was the best movie of the year, possibly of all time.. Reviews from Yahoo and other sources give it A+++ from critics and reviewers... I saw it today (instead of Babel) and throughout the whole movie, i had regret and did not like it one bit... all i could think of was, "we shoulda watched babel"... anyways, the commercial made it seem very mystical and intriguing, but it really wasnt..ahhh... gosh... anyone who watched the movie also feel the same?? am i missing something here??
