I just watched Brokeback Mountain and I feel like I missed something important. I don't understand the relationship that each one had with his father either. Can someone please sum it up for me?

I think the father relationship your talking about is when Ennis tells the story of his dad taking him to see the dead body of a man who lived with another man...supposedly gay. It just means that his father made it very clear that homosexuality was wrong, you would even get killed b/c of it. The image of that dead man stayed with Ennis and it further imprinted in his head that being gay was wrong and shameful...which is why it was so difficult for him to leave and go live with Jack(like Jack wanted to do). So instead of giving in to his feelings toward Jack, he continues to deny them eventually ending up alone. I hope this helps!

you won't believe this but I got the same impression that the writers were trying to imply the relationship with the fathers was lacking something. To sum it up these two guys were gay & in denial because they knew society would judge them & maybe even harm them. So they lived a double life, denying themselves true happiness not being able to be with each other. The begining of the movie made me uncomfortable but I ended up feeling sorry for these 2, I thought the acting was great.

2 gay cowboys had rough sex, they tried to hide it one half heartedly denied it and one died because he was gay. The end. I suppose I could add the fact that it was a gay love story but did that movie need to be made? Did the plight of two gay cowboys really need to be told? I am pretty sure there are many stright cowboys out there right now that are kinda angry that now if they go away for a day or two with another man they were"reliving Brokeback". Awful movie. There are many other gay topics that are relevant to society that could be addressed.

THAT WAS A GREAT MOVIE!

Two guys (Jack and Ennis) are ranching together and they fall in love. But in that time period it wasn't right for two guys to love each other, so they went and married girls. They basically decided to forget about each other. Years later they got bakc together and realized how much they are still in love. Jack really wants to run away with Ennis and just live together peacefully but Ennis doesn't want to. So Jack finds other guys to sleep with to try and forget about Ennis. Jack eventually gets beaten to death because someone found out that he was gay. Ennis basically realizes that he wishes he had went with Jack because he loved him.

It is a great story and anyone who doesn't think so is stupid.
