I love all of your choices except for Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia and Bridge to Tarabithia. They are way too kiddy for my tastes. Pan's Labyrinth was a little much on the violent side to be in this category.

I think that they are outlets of escape. You have many characters to identify with. Their personal journey or adventure can easily become part of your own fantasy. In addition, all of those movies have EXCELLENT special effects. It is fuel for the imagination. Finally, many of those movies are from our childhood books. They let you finally live the vivid world that you dreamed of when you were young.

Fantasy. The idea that for just a couple of hours, anyone can become a part of a particular movie. A great way of escaping the humdrum of every day life.

Because like the avatar in your picture, they are all 'fantasy'! Which means they are NOT 'reality'. And what better way to escape reality than to step into a fantasy? ;-)
