I saw a movie years ago that was released in the late 80s or early 90s. At the beginning, friends were out late and confronted in a big city's alley. One had his throat slit and thought dead. Years later, the protagonist discovers that his friend did not die. The one who had been injured seeks revenge against the protagonist. This is about all I can remember, and it's really bothering me that I don't recall the name or actors. Can anyone help?

It wasn't Ghost. I'm fairly sure it wasn't a big Hollywood movie.

Nor was it a horror movie. It took place in a big city, most of it at night. It was more of a suspense. No supernatural qualities or anything.
The villain was friends with the main character, but sought revenge for being left for dead. I think he may have spoken through a hand-held device due to his injury.
