I'm in my 10th year of teaching middle school math, but I always welcome advice (from both "older or "newer" teachers!) about their "beginning of the year" procedures.

IF not, can people give me some tips on how I can study independantly and effectively? Thanks, it would be greatly appreciated. And ways to stay motivated, would be nice. Cause I lose track when working by myself, often,

And don't mention anything baout getting help from my school- cause they're planning to make us pay for the classes (I go to a stinkin private school; and it's not even worth it); and I don't plan to go to them.

I teach at a state college that has a strong education department, mostly elementary ed. In my state, you cannot *major* in education, you have to pick an ordinary major or an interdisciplinary one. The vast majority of education students major in something other than science (or math, for that matter). For example, for incoming freshmen, there are 41 who are doing an interdisciplinary major, and *none* of those are in the sciences (there is an interdisciplinary science major).

Why is there such a disparity? Why don't kids who like science go into teaching? Or, why do kids who go into teaching not like science? And what can be done to get more science-types to go into teaching, besides obvious things like increase teachers saleries.

I taught one course of beginning high school Spanish last year, but I'm not satisfied with the order I went in. I feel like I should introduce verbs earlier, maybe even making them second on the agenda (right after introductions and useful phrases for the classroom).

What order should I go in?

I know I need to cover things like articles, possession, basic school-related nouns, food, and people. They need question words and pronouns and confusing stuff like gustar. What should I start with? Where should I go from there?
