I would love to study abroad-- it's something I've been wanting to do for a while. My parents have issues with it though, despite the fact that I'm 18 (where I'm from, you still have to live with your parents at that age). My dad especially talks about how I would be subjecting myself to danger if I were to go. I understand his concerns- I just feel as though he doesn't see the other side of the coin.

If you've had any similar problems, how did you get your parents to agree?

Hey everybody.
I live in Shanghai, China, but I have a permanent residence in California, where I spent 14 years of my life. I attend an international school now, but had attended California public schools prior to high school. My parents still pay their state taxes, my brother lives in the house in California and I intend on getting my driver's license this summer in California.

Do I qualify for instate? I'm attempting to get into UC Berkeley or UCLA, which obviously selects more California residents. Does living in Shanghai and attending an international school for high school adversely affect my chances of getting in?

Day by day Visa procedures are getting tougher for security threats posed to nations, but students who are willing to study abroad are really crushed by this tough and time consuming system and the irony is that terrorists still are able to enter the nations! Isn't it sad?

I have been in good schools (JC1 now) but i haven't been the greatest student for the past few years. Ive only been scraping by but recently, ive been extremely inspired to start getting serious and ive been trying very hard to catch up. its been going well. But the fact remains that i failed three out of four subjects at one point, eventhough i have pulled all my grades up to decent ones within a few months.I really think by next year i can aim for straight A's, and i just want to know if my past is going to affect the chances i have of getting into an ivy league instituition. i've always had a leadership position in school and i have been pursuring interests and bringing out my talents outside of school as well. :( I'm really ready to go all out but is it too late?
