My son is three years old and was adopted from Russia 1 1/2 years ago. He has come a very long way developmentally and I want to continue to offer him an environment where he will be encouraged to grow mentally; spiritually, and also be given the nurturing every child needs. There is a great traditional Montessori school nearby that goes through the sixth grade. I have also recently come across a Waldorf school that started about two years ago and that too seems interesting. I don't think either way I would make a mistake, but I just wish I could put my hand on something that would help me make this decision. He is an awesome child and loves being around kids and loves hugs and kisses. He is a pleaser. He likes to explore how things work. My only concern with Montessori is the independent time might be perceived by him as being placed to the side; and with Waldorf my concern is that they don't teach traditionally at all and the unknown scares me. I have to decide soon. Thanks

I am looking for the right pre-school for my daughter who is about to turn three. She is very bright, and very independent. She is also very strong-willed and wants to do everything for herself. I don't know much about Montessori schools, hence the question, but I wonder if I should look into them for her. Any explanation of the philosophy of these schools, and how to recognize a good one would be really appreciated. Also, if anyone could answer the same questions regarding Waldorf schools, that would be a bonus. Thank You!

My 5 year old complained that she was told to "wee in her pants" I confronted the principle who gave an acceptable answer, my daughter had to wait her turn the cook was letting them out a few at a time to the bathroom before sleeptime.
Since then the cook called my other daughter who is 4 years old "ugly" she cried, I reported it and the cook apologised, the principle said that the cook doesnt understand english well, didnt mean it and would be kept seperated from the kids as her job is cooking.
Tonight the 4 year old comes home and tell me the cook told her she was ugly again and threw her new book (birthday present) on the ground.

I phoned the principle who will look into it tomorrow BUT I AM SO MAD!!!

We changed schools a year and a half ago because another child sexually abused the 4 year old ... she has had a lot of councelling this year and has just "come right" .... what do I do?

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. The next week, the man realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight to Chicago. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (AND LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM."
The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and that he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't woken him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up."

I had put my 3yrs old son in this church kindergarten but refuse to go school after the 3rd wks. He seems to find it too boring doing the same thing everyday. Any good ones out there with more hands-on activity and more creative one?

My neighbor had multiple sclerosis and the last 6 years (she recently passed) she was not able to do anything - not even wink eyelids. She lied on the bed day & night with tubes and her husband took care of her. I would bring my 3 1/2 year old daughter over to visit on average once or twice a month.

Since my daughter only saw the lady lying in a bed not ever moving - I question if she ever thought it was a real person.

I just don't know how much I need to explain next time I visit and the deceased is no longer there.

Would a 3 1/2 year old even think this was a real person since the lady never talked, moved etc?

Okay, It was suggested to me to create a "science center" for my 2 year old class. I have a few ideas thus far, such as cutting milk jugs in half and planting things in them , then letting the kids take turns watering them everyday.
Another idea I have is to fill some 2 liter bottles with water with different food colors and oil... AND to make a mock bug jar: letting the kids pick some leaves and twigs for me then tying some palstic bugs to fishing line and hot gluingthe lid shut.
I also am going to have a pouring table with eigther sand, dry pasta or beans it it and letting them go crazy..
ANY MORE IDEAS???
