Anything that makes you think is improving your brain power. Even learning things that you will never use again is still excersing your brain and making you smarter. You might not need to know how to do a certain thing, but everything you learn compounds and makes it easier for you to learn the important stuff later on in life.

You are forced to exercise your brain ,
Which very few kids will do on their own .
Left alone , most will watch TV or do video games .
Entertainment is just that , NOT brain exercise .
Although you might learn a couple of things from entertainment (OK , like watching Alexander )
The real things you need , language , articulation , math , algebra , calculus , etc etc etc , will NOT be garnered in a video game .

as a teacher, i would say that school work is designed to enhance learning. we learn auditorily (hearing), visually (seeing), and kinesthetically (doing). so by watching and listening to how something is done or about something, practicing or schoolwork is the next step to apply what you are learning.
smarter, of course, is a relative term. smarter than what?

Think about what the world would be without it. If I didn't know how to count, then I wouldn't be able to tell how long the food we have would last. If I didn't learn the fundamentals of science, then I wouldn't be able to learn the more complicated stuff. And if I didnt know the more complicated stuff, then how would I be able to find ways to prevent bad complicated stuff, and make more good complicated stuff.
If I didn't know what people did in the past, then I wouldn't know not to make the same mistake in the future.

college smart, utilized and understood wisely, is both street smarts and college smarts. In my college, being fullyyt street smart is in basic terms what the persons-who-demean-the-smart-young ones call themselves. for sure, it truly is conceivable to have in straightforward words e book smarts or in straightforward words streets smarts, yet a nicely-rounded recommendations (containing both streets smarts and e book smarts) is the authentic signal of an psychological.
