Home Schooling

I started homeschooling a year ago, my parents and I both agreeing that it was better for education. However, I am not religious, and have no way of meeting people. I was always the shy sit-in-the-corner kind of girl at school, and as consequence have ended up with shall we say "less than a lot of friends"? I prefer homeschooling as far as education goes, but feel I might go mad from lack of socialization in a day (I teach myself school, with my parents being at work). I have been considering public highschool to solve the problem, but really REALLY do not want to attend it. Any suggestions as far as clubs/groups go?

In my daughter's homeschooled course, I had thought of an out-of-class indepedent reading assignment that would be completed every week. Here's my idea:

1) Read 150 minutes each week (30 minutes per day, 5 days)
2) After each daily reading, write a short paragraph on what you read today.
3) When you are done with a book, write about one of the following:
a) a critical analysis of the book
b) a plot summary of the book
c) a book report answering discussion questions relevant to the book

I know that it's independent reading, but she still should have to analyze the book to get the most out of it.

If you have any more ideas or you have an example reading log, please e-mail me at perriermb@yahoo.com. I'd appreciate ideas and maybe we can share some.

We homeschool our kids and I'm soooo tired of the socializing question. I think my kids are well-adjusted and have tons of friends from all age groups and ethnicities. (More so than the kids in my neighborhood who attend the local school). There are a wealth of activities open to homeschoolers, so much so that I never worry about the kids getting enough social interaction.
Am I the only one that is tired of answering this question? In the future, how do I not respond to this question without sounding dismissive? Should I just shrug my shoulders and agree. Help!

My mother is going to my high school this Monday to announce that I would be studying at home so I need to know, so I can tell my mother, is there anything I should ask for from the high school? A friends said I should ask for my record. Also can someone please try and tell me what the home schooling laws foir Illinois are? I looked through them but I have no clue what they mean. I don't need the link since I got it already but I don't understand it. I'm the only one in my area, (and around,) to be home schooled so I need this last pieces of info.

Thanks in advance.

Also I don't need the materials since I already purchased them a while back.

Home-schooling my daughter. She's now 21 months old. At what age do most children begin their homeschooling 'careers'? I'm also a piano teacher (teach privately in my home). I want to homeschool my daughter because of the condition of schools these days. How much time does homeschool require each day? Do you homeschool your children Mon-Fri? I'm just trying to get a feel for how busy my days will be w/ teaching my daughter and teaching my piano students, plus just taking care of our house. I just don't want to be soooo busy each day that I don't have any 'downtime' with my daughter and husband. Any comments/suggestions/etc. greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Again, This is NOT my work. I am helping a friend with her English work. Also she does not have the internet. She is from Germany and she’s having a hard time understanding English. With your comments it is helping her to understand English, and also how to use it later. Plus I don’t want to get the wrong answer in showing her. That’s why I am asking for some extra help. Is that a crime?

doctors visit or something and the kids have to go with you. It's so annoying that people assume that they go to public school and demand to know why they aren't there. How do you handle this without losing your temper because you've already been asked 10 times?
