Con:

1. Sometimes not so good for family living ... try helping one child do their homework, while another watches tv, while your partner wants to chat on the phone all the while the washing machine is chugging away in the background ... then you get visitors! I know, things could be moved to the bedrooms but sometimes in big familys or those with small pockets the bedrooms could be shared or quite tiny.

2. Cooking smells all around the house, followed by household cleaner smells & the pungent whiff of bleach.

Pro:

1. You get a nice great big living space

2. You can have very large furniture

I live in an open plan so
Pros
I can talk to the family when I am in the Kitchen cooking / cleaning.
My place is small so I save a fortune on furniture because I cannot get it in.

Cons
The kids like to watch the blasted T.V in the morning and I cannot go anywhere quiet.
Its difficult to have a conversation, if the T.V and the radio are both on at the same time.

Pros: very open, free; induces creativity; good zen quality(minimalism), great for artists and people who don't have a lot of things(i.e. collectibles and useless chotchkies)

Cons: not a lot of privacy or sense of variety due to lack of walls. you also need to be a neat freak or it will look messy very fast

Pros: looks great, and makes your house feel huge.

Cons: it always has to be neat. Just one sweater draped over a chair and suddenly your house is a "mess"!

Pros - It looks light and airy making good use of natural light, and more spacious as you have fewer dividing walls.

Cons - More expensive to heat as you have one large space, thus it's harder to have different temperatures in different areas, and secondly it limits privacy.
